Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Eve
Name her Eve
Sometimes I fall in love with a seed's story like you. Like my Jimmy Nardello Sweets peppers or my Good Mother Stollard beans. When they're delicious too it's a wonderful bonus!
My garden is meticulous. No weeds. But… it is only 70 sq.m. and contains a lot less food. I would rather compromise in your direction!
If you're sticking with "H" Harriet. Of course "Henrietta "would be fun.
Jessie’s Girl
I like Eden for the calf’s name. The first documented garden in the Bible.
Destiny for the calf!
Dawn
Garden looks like it is producing well. Trust me, mine is even more unruly than yours! LOL. If you want a heavy producing, squash bug resistant, funny looking squash have you tried Canada Crooked neck squash – it was used to develop the butternut squash and flavor is similar..
I think Sarah would be a good name.
What about Vision for your calf? Or Daffodil (a symbol of new beginnings and often gifted to people embarking on a new journey). Or what about Koru. A Maori word for an unfurling fern sprout, represents new growth and regeneration.
How about Boots?
Eve
That green beetle sounded like a Japanese beetle. Will destroy your garden, and eat the fruit off your trees. Kill em when you catch em!
Eve
Prima.
Amma
I remember!
Hi Jess! The adjavarski pepper can be used for a paste/sauce tomato according to Sarah on Living Traditions Homestead. She has been growing them the last couple of years. And they love them. But they like a little bit of spice.
I thought a cute name for the new heifer could be Bridget. Sounds old world. Blessings to you all!!
That looks like polecat peas…might not be able to get a good view of those.
Really liked this, the interaction, the laughther, the eating straight from the garden. Keep it up!greetz from Holland, Hester
This name doesn’t mean legacy but more beginnings. Ruby Dawn – ruby for the colour & dawn for the first or beginning.
Funny thing is green peppers repeat on me terribly but red peppers I have no problem with
The beetle is a Japanese beetle and they are very descriptive. They love fruit trees, rhubarb and many other plants. I live out in the country and when Farmers around me spray their corn and beans they flock to my acreage.
