The Complete Guide To Strawberry Runners! Every year we see these vigorous offshoots coming off our main Strawberry plants. Its great to see and it means the plants are growing and are healthy. But the runners can’t stay, they need to be removed fairly quickly.
And today, we’ll discuss why. Why is it so important to remove the runners from the mother plant and why do they adversely affect our berry harvests.
But as gardeners, nothing goes to waste. The runners are the single easiest way to expand our Strawberry operation and they are abundant and completely free! There’s 3 ways to get them started and I’ll show you all of it, every step of the way! Welcome, to Strawberry Utopia!

Thank you for this video. I learned so much. Now I know why my mother plant didn’t produce strawberries
Thanks for the info.
Currently, I have 6 strawberries plants in pots – should I wait till Spring 2023 to plant on the ground, or should I plant them on the ground now (Summer 2022), or in Fall 2022? I am in zone 5b. Thank you so much, Jeff.
Brilliant!! Thank you SO MUCH for this step by step video! EXACTLY what I needed! Now I SEE ( GREAT CAMERA WORK!) what I may have been doing wrong ( planting to deep, anchor wrong angle) what I did well and why ( keeping runner on mother while rooting) what I can try next! (Water method, anchors from vine!) So grateful, feeling more confident now…was about to give up!
Cool looking fruits you have there my friend.
Thank you. I planted one strawberry plant last year and this year it grows all over my garden. I didn't know that I have to cut the runners and replant. Thank you once again.
Perfect timing. Great video.
You are a superb instructors!! Thank you!!!
this is what im planning next! Never had my own strawberry plant before, good to know you gotta trim them hah. don't want my porch looking like a jungle
Thank you! I have a lot of runners.

Excellent tutorial, thank you very much.

This is a great video! Very informative. Thank you so much.
I'm just about to root some strawberry runners and was going to leave them attached and pinned into pots. Having seen you demonstrate it I'm going to use your water rooting method instead. Thank you for the time and effort you repeatedly give to the production of your videos.
Can someone answer this question?
It is said that good productive life of a strawberry plant is about 3-years (+/-). In the meantime the plant widen s and gets bigger but less productive with aging.
One propagation method is to split the old plant at the roots level. Do these new plants propagated by splitting the old plant make it more productive again for the next 3-years (+/-) ?
If the answer is 'yes', is it because the new plant got its new vigour because of it own separate root?
Just love your videos I have learned so much, just wondering we have some strawberries planted in gutters but not sure if that’s got he best way to grow them what do you suggest
Thank you, that was a very well done video that was informative. I really like that you didnt rush it and even came back at the end to recap all the information.
One day I may start doing videos too, and your channel is definitely an inspiration
Fantastic video very informative thank you now l know what to do with Strawberry runners..
Berry cool!
What makes an enjoyably good YouTube channel ???? Answer: The producer’s personality! You have it my man! In 66 years, I never knew much about strawberries until I watched your video . Thanks!!
That was interesting. I tend to associate strawberries with western WA. So, I've never tried to grow them. A few years ago, the woman who lives in the other half of the duplex had a box out front where she grew strawberries; or, tried to. The berries that I saw were really small. Overall, it did not seem like she had good success. That makes me wonder what kind of climate do strawberries prefer?
I'm in central Florida growing strawberry plants I started from store bought berries, what time of the year would you suggest to separate the multiple mother plants that are in the green stalk? Thanks.
Any chance I could buy your runners? (Texas here)
