You need to check out The Fit Farmer and the fly traps he uses. They seemed to work very well.

I would turn them out with the bull. If it doesn't take with the bull get their selenium levels checked
Morgan from Gold Shaw Farm did something pretty cool to combat the flies. He posted a video last week about it. It seemed to work very well.
I see this cool down as a sign to put them out.

You did a great job of explaining that. I understood it all perfectly well and I don't own cows. I think your changed plan makes perfect sense.
I don't know if you believe this kind of stuff but I dreamed this months and months ago and we love you and would sit and listen to anything that you've got to tell us it's always informative in one way or another and the cows are going to be with calf
Do I own a cow? No. Do I plan to? No. Did I watch the entire video explaining cow breeding? Absolutely.
For short term fly spray – apple cider vinegar. Uncle Justin (Rhodes) uses it when milking his girls in the field.
You and Miah know your farm and your capabilities. You do what works for you. You're a good steward of what God gives you. ❤

I don't know anything about cows but that was very informative. I'm completely on track with your situation except I missed one point. You said you wanted to focus on Jersey cows, is the Bull Jersey?

I really like cows..yeah put em with the bull..if they do get bred and have a bull calf you have your beef in a couple of years..
The more cows the merrier do it!! But am a cow lover lol we spoil ours and yet people are like how can you sell those calves u bottled fed and took all that time caring for. Well bc u take care of the calves they take care of you. U give them home spoil then they give u food wether u sale for another one to enjoy the benefits or u keep and make more. But we do beef cattle however watching u milk makes me want to have fresh milk. So hard to find that around here anymore. My dad some my fondest memories bringing raw milk home from milk barn. So many dairies wheb out buisness around here. So I say do !!!! Let rise above and have fresh milk again.
We have kept some of the bottle fed those you get attatch they have a good story behind how they survived and if they are gentle great mothers how can u even after 3 calves pretty girl will still lick u arm off in the field bc she was saved calf mom died having her in the dead winter we thought she froze brought her home gave bath to get her warm and get afterbirth off. And she still kicking today 3 years later. Great cow. Got 5 we saved during the summer heat older Cows. Does make difference if u can sych them all together or get the timing down but sometimes things happen like bull gets past the fense no matter what ubdo and u have oops but sometimes those oops calves turn into awesome cows ….so farming alot like life happens for a reason and u keep doing it bc u love it so.
Have them with the Bull and if they get breed Great if not not. You will need more animals regardless, especially if you want to experiment and have a learning farm later. Your kids are growing and you have 5 boys that will eat you out of house and home and little dainty Maliah(that is not so little either) plus family and friends. You might end up doing your own cheese and you will need milk and lots of it.
