Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

G'day Everyone, check out Marty's video here https://youtu.be/_MBQeeU5oAI and thanks for your support! I have met a ton of you over the past week (mostly in Ipswitch), and I've had a great time listening to your stories about what you are growing and how you are growing it. Good to see so many people "getting into it!" Cheers, Mark 🙂
Awesome stuff!
This was awkward
I would of buried buckets full of emergency food in the bottom.
Hi where can I get those raised bed
Looks like you were having great fun Mark! I am encouraged, as I have to put new gardens in a new residence.
So are you a giant or is Marty on the smallish side?
A big thanks for the heads up on the Egyptian spinach! Love the stuff.
Why make the containers so tall? Mine are half the height. It's tough enough to fill those with sticks, mulch, and other materials.
I love the colab with my favourite Aussie gardeners …. Excellent !
Hot damn Mark! I sure hope Marty is shorter than average, otherwise I estimate you as being 3m tall! Haha.
Great video!
This reminded me of how I would want to get a raised garden bed and just use leaves, grass clippings and kitchen scraps to full it
Thanks Mark! Love the video. Marty we hope you love your new garden tools
I have 6 raised garden beds from IBC 1000lt Honey tanks cut in Half .( I only use old Food grade ones, honey, Garlic, are the 2 I get) Cheap for those on tight Budgets about $50-70 a tank so around $30 a bed , Been using the first 2 for 8 years now , still good. Have produced many many crops , and feed my small family many meals . These birdies beds look great but a little too much for a pensioner .
Hey Mark What do you use to control weeds. I dont like using the Nasty Round ** stuff .
Wow, how tall are you? You make this guy look like a dwarf. I'm not saying it's bad or good. I just didn't expect you to be that tall.
When I win lotto I must get you to come and show me how to set up my garden beds.
Lamo the disparity of their heights and shorts lengths is hilarious.
You need to put gravel under the line of the raised bed and also ensure it is level.
You can make a table garden with 2 to 3 gallon pots as many as you want, why waste all this money on these big bins and soil with all the work involved to build it.
mark ur a giant
Good old Hills Hoist. Typical Aussie back yard.
Is Marty 1 of your garden gnomes?
Twins
Fantastic doing this journey today
So good. I loved this episode guys. This looks like so much fun.
