I made one of these, using a pvc pipe lying around as a handle, to harvest from our bitter gourd plant that has grown around the house. This does work but what I had to do with mine is to make another slit at the top part of the hole so it catches onto the fruit better which makes it cut better and so it doesn't pull on the vines too much. Works pretty well.
