I would like to see videos on the individual trees if you could. Thanks for sharing the video
Thank you. This has been quite helpful. Any knowledge of fig trees?
Hi tuck
I was talking a walk the other day and I saw a apple tree loaded with fruit and great shape never seen anything like it they must have trained it throughout the plants life
good video! this one and the skillcult pruning videos are good stuff skill cult talks about grafting and notching /rubbing .,modified central leader….too
I love watching your videos.
James we don't let our Yorkie get lassoed by the kneck to get "groomed". He's a rescue who had terrible honking; not so much 5 years later.
Thank you for everything I have and am learning from Jersey Growing.
Why are the scaffolding branches so low on that apple tree
First time James is making videos in December. Thanks James, I used to be curious how the garden would look in winter.
This is a really terrific intro tutorial!
I didn’t prune the leader branch of my peach tree while it was young. Now it’s 4 years old and the leader is about 2-3 inches in diameter. Is it too big to cut it off now? Should I take it completely out or do a little at a time? Or just accept that I missed my window and try to just keep it pruned so it’s just the leader with no branches off of it. Any help is appreciated.
I think this is the most useful video you’ve ever done, at least for those with fruit trees. I have some newer trees and some older ones. I have a horticulturist friend who has come to help me prune a couple of times. I still feel like I don’t do a great job, but I hope I’m getting better. I spent quite a few years over pruning my trees. A couple things he showed me, one had to do with training a branch to take over for another(not that I got that real well) and also something about the windward side of the tree needing to be pruned differently. Do you know anything about these parts of the pruning subject? I would love for you to do a series of videos on each type of fruit tree, maybe visit other(maybe neglected?) orchards where there are much older trees so we could get a better idea of how to prune older and neglected trees. Thanks so much, this was very helpful information!
Wow, James!!!! This is the BEST video on fruit tree pruning I've ever seen!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!
James it was very interesting seeing your backyard with the growth being gone! You’d never know you have so many neighbors! Plus this is really a valuable video. Thanks for putting in so much time on it!
Can anyone guide me to a video of trimming 4-5 year old trees that were neglected? They need trimming for sure, but I'm new and assuming they need a different approach.
Yes please! More pruning videos including grapes, berries, currants and so on.
and the pruned branches be rooted?
James, great video.
Have you ever tried talking to your trees and asking them where they would best like to be pruned?
Nature knows 😉
Thanks, this is handy! I would love to know your take on "one straw revolution" which talked about having fruit trees shape/manage themselves from the beginning. I have just started my food forest – apples lemons bananas cherry's kumquats oranges nectarines etc. They're all only 1-2 years old. I was going to give it a shot and just do some basic shaping on the lemon, but if I were to start pruning the apple, nectarine, cherry and apricot trees, when should I start? Also! I want to put nuts in, would almond or macadamia trees require the same level of attention or would they be more like guavas, where you don't have to do anything much to them?
So much great information! Can you walk us through pruning a young blueberry and pomegranate bush? Thanks, James!
This is great. Do you have one on blueberries and/or currants?
I would like you to show us how to prune a fig tree.
This video was most helpful! Yes please, details on just peaches and just apples.
