VIDEO: The Big Dig #allotment #gardening #gardeninguk

I haven’t been up to the allotment since October and it’s a complete mess. Today is the day that I make a start on tidying up the plot as the growing season is not far away now. Come and watch me struggle and have a laugh at my expense, you know you want to.

  1. Good job on doing the work you have in this video. You got this, it's a marathon not a sprint. I am currently going through the same thing as you. It's such a ball ache doing it this time of year. It is annoying me enough that I have just ordered some weed membrane so I can cover my beds come the Autumn/Winter so I don't have to do it next year. My beds range from 15ft to 35ft long, all 4ft wide. It's going to take a few flasks of tea and many sittings down staring at it and questioning my life choices to get through it lol.

  2. Hi Adam, Good to see you back at the plot. When it's cold, wet and miserable best away from the ground anyway. Your soil looks very free draining so a few fine days will soon have the beds all ready for sowing and planting. Nothing better than a good bonfire to rekindle the enthusiasm!

  3. I think doing the second bed was a mistake. Going to the allotment ought to be enjoyable. Preparing one bed is enough for one shift, and then you can look forward to doing another bed another day, whilst as you did two beds and didn't enjoy it, you'll be dreading going the next time. That's how my brain works, anyways.

  4. I'm on a single cane. I still haven't gone out back yet. My plan of attack is the four 8×4 beds in 1st before the end of the summer. Then I'll bang out the 4×4's. I'm going to try & get in some winter crop with a handful of late season stuff. Kale, beet, carrots, & if I have the time some peas, First I have to cut back that jungle out there. I'll be planting fruits & flowers next year. Asparagus will be going in next spring also. Thanx for posting.
