i made strawberry barrel the way you are in this video. a wine bottle works great for making the openings. i don't drink i got the bottle from my brother
I did exactly the same as you. Heat in a V shape, pry the opening and let cool or the hole will shrink. One thing I found is that the holes that you drill on both sides of the 6" cut should be large. I think I did mine at 1/2" or 3/4". It makes it easier to heat and slip in the wood.
I love the idea. I know I can get barrels like that for free at work.
My recommendation would be to make it into a self watering container. There are videos of how to make self watering five gallon containers. Use their ideas and adapt it for your tower. I think I will make one for my strawberry plants.
I'm looking forward to making quite a few of my own and a few for friends! I like that you used a rounded edge to make the holes. Cleaner look. Where could I find something like that?
As for the wooden piece you used to make the holes…where could I find those or something similar to do the trick? Forgive me, but I'm quite new to the DIY world so I'm not familiar with a lot of the fancy tools and names of certain odds and ends.
curious, Strawberry's won't over winter in many pole verticle grow set ups. wonder with the larger soil mass how they n other plants might deal with winter cold n freezes. I'm in southeast Pa.
Hi. My name is: lekhacnam I am living in Vietnam I am researching and desired development model by hydroponic vegetable growing. but I live in a tropical climate, so I wanted a tropical vegetable production and this is my model. i realiced that my barrel failed because i did it with a bñue barrel wich concentrates lot of temperature while the sun heats the soil and finally i understood roots were cooking. thats why it wasnt succesfull. it has to be a white plastic barrel or if blue, then put some termic aislation . little big detail!

Is there a purpose for the project other than to just grow a plant? Tomatoes and peppers are fairly simple. Bush beans would be good for inside growing The problem with fruiting plants inside and out of season is that they often sensitive to the length of the day and you may have to insure you have lights on a timer to simulate the natural light exposure over 3 to 4 months. You will also have to hand polinate them. For this reason I would go with tomato. Pollination can be as simple as tapping the flower clusters each day. Leafy vegetables or root vegetables may be a better choice. lettuce may be a good choice.

Thank you soooooooooo much
Good information
Next video you should use a bikini model, lol!
Cool project. Cold water and a rag to cool the bend instantly so you don't have to wait so long
why don’t you just cut a horizontal line and then use your wooden stick to separate and create the hole like the one you did before
Helpful, thank you!
there's cross talk on the audio track…
I really like the way you make the holes on this. Thanks.
I'm going to make some of these but wish there was a quicker way to make the holes.
This is too slow.
looks need and clean !!
Use water bottle stay to expedite the cooling
Good . Made it easy. Thank you.
