LED grow lights are some of the most confusing pieces of grow technology on the market, and made more so by LED manufacturers purposefully confusing consumers in their marketing materials. Learn how to TRULY evaluate a LED grow light’s performance for its price range in this video. We’ll cover some basic terminology like PAR, PPF, PPFD, and photon efficacy.
Then, we’ll get into a few different misconceptions:
1. LEDs are better because they use less power.
2. Total potential wattage vs. actual diode capacity used.
3. PPFD numbers are to be trusted from manufacturers.

If we're using purely grow lights for growing (i don't have a sunny window or a backyard to place them outside) do you have to be on the look out for a certain stage of growth? Do you need to synthesis an experience for the plant? (I once saw a video of a woman slowly pushing her plant around to mimick a storm for the plant)
Right now i have a batch of seedlings (4 of each, parsley, lavender, jalapeño, sage, chives, pumpkins) they're growing well and i've spaced them out for their necessary light requirememts and have a medium sized fan blowing on the lowest setting to give the effect of natural wind. Do i need to do anything else? I know with poinsettas you have to plan the dark-light settings in order for them to bloom. Anything like that i should anticipate?
Have you done a full video on on starting plants using the grow light? Or do you plan on doing one. I’m a year late on this one. But i watch all of yours now. Thanks for some really quality stuff.
Omg you get high!?!?!
Thank you for this clear and concise explanation! Very easy to follow and understand.
Awsome gem
My 70 Euro spectra is at 2.7 micromol|joule c:
I believe we recently figured out up to 740nm is used, but not positive that’s the case
I have talked to many people that use grow lights. One thing they all had in common. Every one advised, do not get LED.
What about the Reflected Light from the Shiny Walls in a Grow Tent ? … Doesn't that increase your light in the Corners ? … And a plant's leaves move to face the strongest Light , so when you measure the light shouldn't your meter face the light center and not straight up ? … I would think Reflected light makes a Big difference ! … It is the difference between lighting a room with White Walls and a room with Dark Walls ….. And what's the point in having your most Intense light in the Middle ? … Why wouldn't you leave the Center of your light Open and move your lights closer to the sides for a more Even Light Distribution ? … Wouldn't that also help keep your light Cooler ?
I have to admit that your presentation sure sounded informed, but it didn't actually help me figure out how to buy a quality light. So, instead of learning all the scientific details like you in order to buy a light, i just bought the light you reccomened. Hope it works for me. Thanks.
Why aren't you showing any plants that you have used with grow lights, huh?
You literally have everything I need. Haha. I'll be transforming our old refrigerator to some sort of seed starting station and I'm currently looking into grow lights. Thanks as always Kev!
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but clearly understood in detail what you shared. I'm confident we can grow two Basel one Cilantro plants indoors this winter. Thanks!
Should LED grow lights be always used at 100% capacity? I see a lot of online sites say to do that
I thought I was smart, then I watched this video.
Awesome man! love that light arrangement.
This is a very well made ad
It's really irritating when someone says something and then immediately says the same thing again but using different words.
It's REALLY irritating when the speaker does it three times in a row.
Too much scientific jargon
What tent are you using and how is the light penetration during dark hours in it?
we dont have debug. level 10 nut butter at 30 seconds. is that youtube title your talking in ? you should debug the line of led so that we only buy functional for stories. thats retail your not really including us as a people. i dont like retail and nut butter that much.
goes nut butter then you have debug it cause its toxic and you just skipped it all. and your not actually skipping the toxic part your just skipping going over it after its debugged. 1/2 a million 1.45 million ? yea right. put more nut butter on your channel.
after it runs out you go back and buy the lights maybe ?
HYPE THIS MAN
in your example the LEDTonic pulls 112 watts of power divided between it's 64 diodes that is 1.75 watts per diode, so similar watts per diode to the "ebay light". I do not see how this makes it more efficient . the moles per joule seems to be the only way to know which is more efficient. Or perhaps I am not understanding the comparison ?
What size tent is that?
Eat THC
Need help I got a one “hemp plant” but I only got one led light 2ft long 32watts 53PAR/PPF Is that good or I need something better ?
