VIDEO: How to Espalier a Tomato Plant Using Mini Trellis Made From Reo Mesh

This video shows how I typically espalier single tomato plants that have self-seeded in the garden by making a simple mini trellis from reo mesh and a star picket. Thank you for your ongoing support!

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started SSM in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. hey Mark ! nice idea there ! I'm in Canada, and my season is over ! another 2 weeks or so, and my plants will be very much finished… they already feel winter is on its way. Glad I subscribed to your channel ! Thanks very much for the idea, I like this so much more than the flimsy ones they sell at my local gardening center ( bamboo ) which wall apart so easily.

  2. I think we should all as subscribers try to share some of these videos to gardening Facebook pages and stuff to try to get more views going

  3. thanks again for the info mark. i recently purchased a 3 acre property and i have just started trying my hand and veg growing. complete noob but you are helping in every way with your tips and tricks. just started growing tomatoes myself

  4. Now it's going to get a lot more light and air in and around the plant Mark ! Kookas laughing, first sign of rain not far away usually !!  Seeya Rob

  5. nice one m8.
i am glad i found your channel, top videos you do. i used the same stuff for my tomato plants, works great.
it was one of your top 5 videos that came to my attention on a suggested video.
    keep up the good work.

  6. Hi Mark good idea for the toms grow most of mine in greenhouses but this year grew 4 Roma in separate pots outside (greenhouses full) the bamboo canes just not strong enough had to put what we call metal road pins, into the ground to stabalize them next yr will do it your way. That tomato plant reminds me of the Marmande that I grew this year, do the ripe toms turn pinkish rather than red? West Yorkshire England

  7. Mark which video did you get rid of that massive snake? I've had a look but cant find it. Managed to get some avocado scion so I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks!

  8. Nice idea mate! Didnt think of using reo mesh. What tomato varieties do you usually grow? Its starting to get warm here in NSW and Im getting that tomato itch again. 🙂
