Thanks for the great videos. If you get a thermocouple and measure the temps. of top six inches of soil during a sunny day you will see that the temperature of just the top 2 inches will change drastically based on the color and water content of the soil. For my small garden at home, I shred white paper to make a reflective cover for the little plants. And you are probably cooking the roots that are near the surface. Limestone might work to the cool the soil off. Or water during the hot part of the day, keep them wet.
You started out mixing your salanova in a jar then spreading out in a flat, now it seems you're starting them in soil made with a soil blocker; later faster and easier?

pair turnips with a giant patch of jerusalem artichokes your good to go. Best calorie crop per square ft and fights quack grass which is unheard for most root crops

I would love to find someone in an area like central to souther Texas or Florida, where it never freezes to see their choices in plants throughout the year.
Curtis, great work brother to the north! Yukon gold potatoes only require one mounding during the growing season. Not everyone likes turnips or sweet potatoes, hope this helps as a suggestion. Rock on!
