What kind of van do you have ? Love how you haul dirt in it !!!
Have you thought about adding additional beneficial micro-organisms/other biodiversity to your compost before transporting it to the newly formed beds at your various sites? It seems like it's a pretty big part of your operation when turning over new properties, but it's not being utilized to its fullest.
What is your thought on homemade tea's? Do they warrant use at any point, from composting to application during the growing season?
Since you already have a good dial in of your setup and how you run things, it would be interesting to see if the results warrant the extra time and money spent.
Now I see how your plots are so productive. That soil looks awesome!
Where do you get the turkey fertilizer from?
didn't you not buy a tool for the bcs machine to do the edges of the beds ?
3cu yd = ~ 1.2 tonne of compost = 11.5kg N (assuming compost NPK 1-1-1) of which 10% mineralizes this year = 8.5g N/m2 growing space will be available for plants.
Turkey NPK 8-2-4 will have released 11,8g N/m2 of beds all of which is released in the next couple of months.
That amounts to 200kg plant available N per hectare. thats generous considering the light feeding crops that are mostly grown in his system… if the turkey stuff is reapplied between crops theres even more flux of N. are u testing the soil? asking not to raise worries just maybe you could get away with less fert and save cost and labour on that…

how do you keep the paths so weed free?
Better than my "soil". My yard is sand, gravel, rocks, bigger rocks & bolders. Additions are hunks of blacktop (the stuff on roads) & glass, nails, brick pieces. LOL!
How often do you add compost to the beds or that turkey manure?
Hm… That didn't sound/look right, so I did the math: 3 cubic yards of compost over 12 50'x30" beds is only .65 inches deep.
I've been selling small amounts of garden goods for several years now,but you have inspired me and I believe I really can live the dream! I turned my first plot yesterday. thank you Curtis.
If I needed to re soil a yard, I had to dig up a few layers of rocks, where should I get and what should I get. I know I basically need generic soil but all I see at the store is potting soil etc. Also if I was going to do long raised beds what soil would I use?
Hey Curtis how to you calculate how many yard of compost you need when starting a new plot? I have about 2000 square feet of bed I will be prepping for next season and am not sure how many yards that I will need to have delivered.
That bed looks beautiful! I understand stones (in CT fist sized) and with this lot in Ohio, I am on the bank of an old gravel pit. The 75 acre lake is beautiful but the gravel and rocks are a pain – literally – to remove. The Mantis tiller does a good job of bringing them to the surface and then I have to both rake them out and find a place to get rid of them! This spring will be the third year of working this lot and I will plant vegetables among the flowers or change my mind and only plant herbs. We'll see what the soil looks like.
Is chicken manure ok to replace turkey or is it too hot for crops?
Where do u buy yer Turkey fertilizer I'm in vernon, ive checked their website but it must be having some issues with search a retail store
