After many requests, Nana finally sat down and let me interview her! Growing up in poor Appalachia, particularly as a Great Depression baby, her experience as a young girl certainly shaped who she is today. We can all learn from these older generations and their experiences! Thank you for loving Nana and her recipes here on Appalachia’s Homestead like you do!
Thanks for watching! xo

This is my favorite of your videos Patera, thank you
You are the spitting image of Nana-beautiful. Necessity is the mother of invention/creativity.
Ty for this vid. Reminds me of conversations with my grandmother
Wonderful video
This was great. Nana is a boss.
Bet a blessing to sit at her feet, bring Nana back please!
I learned a lot about the Depression Era from my Nana too. Thank you and please tell Nana I say thank you to her for sharing.
God Bless You All!
What a blessing! You have passed her wisdom onto others. I lost my Dad last Thanksgiving (2020). I always asked him questions about his childhood and life during The Great Depression. My Mother's Mother, Grandma Lacy, had a laundry service and about 1000 chickens that she had in her backyard to sell eggs and meat. They too ate meat once a week. We come from strong and able stock Patara!! Thank you so much for sharing.
LORD, I'm just sitting here crying my eyes out missing my Mammaw. You are so fortunate to still have yours. In my humble opinion, this is your best video to date. Cherish every moment. Your Nana's awesome. <3 <3 <3
Thank you we’re sharing Nana with us❤️
Wow! Late but I enjoyed this! I will go look for more. My Meme (grandma) grew up in France during WWII and I never once heard of her speak about being hungry although she always tried to feed everyone when they were visiting. I didn’t realize until after she passed (earlier this year) that they had to hide food and scavenge and were in danger for having food during the war. She never mentioned it to any of the grand kids and I don’t know if my mom and aunt even knew. But she told a family friend and he mentioned it. I was aware of what’s going on today before I heard that. But that comment he made hit the nail on the head for me.
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Love this!!
Most wonderful! Thank you!
We all need Nana's wisdom. I wish I had one more chance to sit down with my grandma. She was from the mountains of east Tennessee, born in 1897. Thank you for sharing your Nana. ❤️
I adore your nana, I miss my grandparents, lost grandpa age 16, and grandma about 10 yrs ago, lost my husband mom we all called nana about 20 yrs ago! We have no family left beyond me hubby and kids now!
She is so amazing. Hugs and prayers to Nanna
I wish my granny was still here. I loved hearing her life in stories. Cherish yours because one day she will be in her heavenly home.

I really enjoyed this video.
Love this. It may have been filmed a few years ago but the lesson stands just as true today. Thanks from Australia.
