VIDEO: Cheap Plant Pots: Walmart vs. Target vs. Marshalls vs. Consignment Stores!

Where do you get your indoor plant pots? I hit up Walmart, Target, Marshalls,. and a consignment store to see what I could find…and I think you will be surprised at which stores I got the best deals!

I ended up with 3 pots:

1. Marshalls – Patterned glazed pot with stand for $15
2. Consignment – Southwest style hand-painted glazed terra cotta for $25
3. Consignment – Round terra cotta glazed with metal stand for $30

Pro-tip: Don’t go to any of the huge stores anytime near or after October, they’ll clear out all of their gardening stuff for Halloween candy, Christmas decorations, etc.

  1. I like the plain terra cotta pots from Home Depot for consistency, however, I am a sucker for your palms pot! I have a couple of large ones in that shape and I also love the olive jar shapes. Large pots! With iron stands. I like the way terra cotta and clay ages, even if painted. I also keep all of my plants on stands, because the large black beetles climb terra cotta to lay eggs and their children are grubs. Grubs chew right through roots. It's a hobby for me to find the pots and stands I like. And by the way, I am in Arizona, so terra cotta works…

  2. Totally love the idea of going and shopping for pots at different stores, it's fun to watch. Question about that Majesty Palm you got – was it pest free? I really want one and went to Home Depot and it was covered in spider mites. Made me walk away from their entire selection unfortunately. I would like to pick one up from a big box store, I'm just wondering if that's to be expected.

  3. If you have any friends with reptiles/amphibians, some use the faux plants in their enclosures as decor/enrichment. That is also something you can do if you want the pots and not the plants.

  4. SO happy I just found you. You are the best!! Question: what tip of pot did you put under the last pot with the plant in it from Walmart? The pot was the raised one from the consignment store? Also, SO glad you informed about some plants (like ferns) that are okay without a drainage hole. I did just order the diamond tipped bits to drill some holes in pots that do need them, thanks to you. Really love how you break everything down in simple ways and make gardening seem approachable and not daunting. Thank you!

  5. @epic gardening Where's the best place to get the very extra large terra cotta pots and for the best price. I remember when you used to be able to get a 5 or 10 gallon terra cotta pot from Wal Mart for just a few dollars and now they cost a fortune compared to then. The extra large ones I need will wipe me out on my budget. Lol!

  6. I remember osh kosh.lol but what I remember and miss even more is OSH The garden home store.. man they had the best stuff and the employees where ACTUALLY helpful! Dang I miss them

  7. My wife runs the yardwork business that we started together seven years ago. Most of the pots I have now were "found" buried beneath the weeds in people's overgrown yards. I always ask if they want them hauled away, and usually they say yes!
