Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Have you considered growing Galapagos wild tomatoes in summer? Supposedly they're much more heat-tolerant than domestic tomatoes. They're about cherry tomato sized.

  2. I love watching your videos, even though 99% is stuff I can't personally do myself. I live in Minnesota, U.S.A., and we go from -20 (-30c) up to possibly 110 (43c)! How cold do your winters get?

  3. Hi Mark,
How did you go growing the Rocoto chilli?
I am gobsmacked at ours here on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, as they are prolific all year round. Even through winter when the temperature drops to 2degrees Celsius.
They are a spreading plant and we hope to espalier ours when we move to the Westernport-Bass region soon

  4. I've sowed Radishes in the summer. I dont think they would make it. I dont know why but, my zucchinis/ summer squash arent producing any big fruits. I dont know why they wont do it. My Marigolds are doing good. My cucumbers arent producing fruits too. I dont know why that also happens with the cucumber.
