Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
G'day Everyone! I tried to get this video uploaded yesterday but alas YouTube had other ideas and the upload failed for some reason… Anyway, here it is – thanks for your support 🙂
Great to see your fruit trees but man! pronunciation!
I notice your trees are in raised rows heavily mulched. I wonder if I should be doing that? We just planted in a rather casual way and some fruit isn’t very good. Now I have some plan for improvement
It looks like you could benefit from biochar and wood chips. aphids attack dehydrated plants.the chips will really help and cut down on your watering. Great job with the variety. Invest some time with the Back to Eden videos. Good luck
Proper pruning is a year round job most of that you can do by rubbing the branches by hand and with gloves on your hand. If you think outside the box Paul at back to Eden has great ideas
Prelepo bilo je umivanje gkedati vaš voćnjak bravo lep pozdrav iz srbije
Predivno. Pravi užitak posmatrati vaš voćnjak i vrt. Mnoštvo prelepog voća. Pozdrav za vrednog čoveka i pravog domaćina. Sve čestitke i bravo
I'm glad there wasn't a quiz at the end of this! So many different varieties. Moved to north Florida this year from a place that always gets snow in the winter. Looking forward to growing the subtropical fruits.
Would love to see your watering system. Once they are set up its easy to forget what went into them.
Saw the video today. Loved it. Probably got already got your answer on custard apple in case you haven't, custard apple are hard and tight even when they are ready to be plucked. The protrusions or bumps on the fruit become wider and larger. The fruit becomes yellowish white in top with lighter green shade. They need to be plucked and kept in warm place or buried deep in rice sacks for it to ripe in 24 to 48 hours
You must have started with a cleared lot. I’m jealous.
Hey Mark – Thanks for the great vid! Do you have a link to the 'next' video you reference at the end where you said you'll talk about how everything is connected, irrigation, etc?

Panama Berry we call it alatiris in the Philippines.
No undies on the clothesline. Must be going commando.
Why haven't you tried grapes and apricots yet?
Enjoy watching your video, smooth talking, and thank you for taking your time explaining . To answer your question on how and when to pick the sugar apple ! It will get soft when touch gently, the color also will change to be less green and some has a nice fragrance , also the section will expand larger when mature enough . This is one of my favorite fruits.
thanks for showing us the piece of haven u have created. just love it brother , thanks for all the info and time u share, cuz i cant stop watching all the videos.
Hey mate would do up sum cuttings for me iv got sum nice fruit trees of my own
You may find it easier if the Latin name of the plant is inclued with the common name. The problem is that many plants have many common names that spread over different plants and species
Hi I have 1 acre on the GC, it seems I have a similar dream on a smaller lot. I have many of the fruit trees you mentioned, can you make a fruit fly management video for your fruit trees.
What a great video. Amazing! I can’t wait to get in our house and start in the orchard.
Amazing Information about different plants, thanks.
What a beautiful garden must be tough taking care of all of the plants
Thank you for sharing this. It’s my dream on day to have something like this.
