lets start over has been the theme of my year too.
Sending hugs from NE Tennessee! We also struggled with the weather 18" of water in the garden on Easter followed by weeks of rain….then hot hot weather and No rain…then a gully washer. We had fresh produce but nothing to preserve, but that's ok because we were building a house. Last year I had LOADS of produce to put up. God knows what we need, I couldn't have dealt with last years production from my garden this year. I'm ready to rest and plan for next year though. Thanks for all your videos and inspiration!
Did u ever get the chance to use the banana leaves as foil in baking? I would love to try them when i heard they are “nature’s aluminum foil”
Have you thought about donating the excess basil to a soup kitchen or some other food for the needy program?
Does feeding basil to the animals change the flavor of the milk?
I just moved to Arkansas. God has placed it on my heart to grow and I really have no idea where to start!
I enjoyed watching your videos, but are you saying kale can be grown outdoors during fall and winter? I would love to grow some!!!
you know something.my soil was not at all good to grow vegges. than go devotional prayed and even fast to my god to show me ..i dont want to kill those small harmful micro organisms.but you know that day a miracle happen.god gave me a very advance usefull bacteria which eats harmful bacteria .its availabe in my country.thanks to our dear lord god jesus christ
Basil is great muddled with lemon and a touch of sugar and Hendrix gin and tonic!
I root coleus every year. Easy peezy..
Jess , You may need some vitamin D supplements during winter season to keep your wonderful smile going ! Avoid Winter Blues !
So inspirational
Seasonal Affective Disorder kicked in big time for me today. Thank you for your message of making a conscious choice to stay in the moment. So needed to hear this right now.
I've always embraced each season……I understand winter can be hard for some but I know in my heart that the good Lord gave us the beauty of plants and trees to grace our surroundings. That the Winter season gives them their time to rest and allowing us to rest as well. Beautifully said my friend.
You may already have something like this, but it would be amazing if you had something like a "December playlist" and "January playlist." Then you could put all the December and January stuff in them and so on. We have done gardens for several years but I am always several weeks late doing everything. I'm searching your channel now to find out everything you do in the month of December since there are similarities in your zone compared to mine. Really, we are just a little dryer and hotter year around. My goal this year is do everything when I should actually be doing it and so I'm looking to see what others are doing.
Do you have a video that outlines your irrigation/watering system?
At least once a year I take a photo of my harvest piled on my kitchen towels drying after a good washin. I bet you have mounds and mounds! It's so easy to grow but it takes a lot to put by. 🙂
If I had all the hoop trellises that you do, I would make quick row covers over peppers etc before frost comes! Put a hoop house over the banana trees!
I like you dread the winter it is so depressing to me. No sunshine, not having my hands in dirt. I hope you do well for the winter as I too am going to try to keep myself, my hands, and my mind busy. I love your videos.
I Love your Bolga Market Basket! I would love to have a huge one like that!
can you feed greens to your goats? opps you just answered this before I sent the comment in, lol
How do you keep your grasses down that grows in the paths you walk on? We rototill the entire vegetable garden side of the garden every year. Now I'm determined to put raised beds back in the garden. You inspire me so much Jess. I am always mentioning you in my house to my husband that I'm doing it the way you're doing it. Our fencing we use in the food rows to hold various climbing plants…. but they are weak fencing and hang over at times with the weight of the plant on them. Ugh. Thank you for all the explanations. I love hearing… why and what….. etc.
I have to get out and plant MORE carrots. I've been clearing spaces from plants that were done. I know this was last years video, but every video you do I love hearing more …..
I clicked on your link for hats…. and it gave me this message: "Hmm… Looks like you don't have access to this page.
You can return home or go back to the previous page"
I’m making that choice this year……I love watching your videos so much because your thoughts echo my own. It’s been the most difficult year of my life and that sadness has threatened to swallow my joy…..God is helping me travel this road and I’m going to let Him hold my sorrow and my joy and keep them both safe while I rest this winter.
I'VE NOTICED THAT WHEN YOU DIRECT SOW IN YOUR RAISED BEDS, YOU TEND TO PLACE THE SEEDS A COUPLE INCHES FROM THE EDGE BOARD, AND I'VE WONDERED WHY YOU PLACE THEM THERE INSTEAD OF DEEPER INTO THE BED, FURTHER BACK FROM THE EDGE?
Hey Jess!!! You should take a pup off your banana trees and see if you can get it to fruit in the new high tunnel!!!!!
I miss winter but now I live in zone 9B in North Central inland California. Winter here is so short and so mild that there's not much rest. I hope you and everybody else that lives in the areas that have had such tough winters this year have been able to continue to find joy in them anyway. Happy gardening in 2021.
