Compost tea! It is the perfect soil conditioner, the perfect way to
supercharge the garden, and it is FREE! This method of compost tea
making is called steaped tea. It is much faster and more convenient for
young gardeners, or in a pinch when your garden need a little greening
up. Brewed compost tea is my preference if I have the time, but often I
don’t so I usually go with this method. Gardening does not have to be
difficult, so don’t make it difficult!

Really cool video, you always make everything very easy to follow 🙂
My grandfather used to do a manure tea. Can you tell me pro's and con's of compost vs. Manure tea?
Hey Luke – I thought compost tea HAD to be brewed. I wasn't going to go through the trouble. But this is easy enough for me to do…love it!
Still kind of confused about using chlorinated water in the garden. Do you think it would kill off beneficial bacteria in tea?
I understand why people call these compost teas, I'd probably call this a compost slurry, organic liquid fertilizer, and at a stretch compost tea if it used dechlorinated water. It's clearly not an actively aerated compost tea (using a bubbler), used to increase soil microbial numbers and diversity that most associate with "compost tea", or to a lesser extent a tea extract (massaged compost teabag used to release the microbes and nutrients into dechlorinated water), or a leachate (strained through compost). Using chlorinated tap water may make the microbes dormant or kill them off, losing the long term benefits of added microbial numbers and diversity in soils that make those nutrients organically available to plants in the first place. It's this microbial diversity that we want in the long run doing the work in the soil for us such that we don't have to amend the soil with liquid fertilizers weekly. Also, by providing habitat by way of plants, plant litter (leaves, green mulch, etc) we keep those microbes fed, hydrated and flourishing once they're there, and they in turn feed the plants. Feed, shelter and clothe the soil to feed the plants.
Any updates as fall approaches on the inside garden aka the microgarden. Still a favorite channel of mine.
My beds are nearly 100% compost. Is there any advantage of adding compost tea to a compost bed or is it simply redundant?
thanks
mud
Pleeezzzeeeeee help….I just noticed that I have mushroom looking spores and a grainy white looking powder in my compost. Should I be worried? Any suggestions? I truly value your opinion. Txs… In advance
Great video MIgardener!! Always a pleasure to tune in.
I am for doing things the easy way 🙂
Im new to your channel and I love what I see. I was directed to you from Sonnie and I plan on getting some ssed from you as well. Happy New Years!!!
Is using composted manure just as effective
oh yes muddy water!
Can I use compost from the store and add chicken poo from my chicks?
Question.. I have a 50 gallon plastic bucket that I throw clipping and pretty much all plant material into. There's about 1/3 rainwater in there and it's a very dark coffee color… is that the same as compost tea?
So is this like fertilizer?thanks
So simple, thanks for the content
Thanks for sharing..
CHLORINATED TAP WATER KILLS MICROBES. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
I don’t need a bubbler to steep my tea…
Is this any different than simply top dressing with compost and letting the rain do the work?
I'm blown away by your utter bravery in using 6 handfuls!
ok look…..can you boil it on the stove to purify it from mold and whatever else?
The nutrients can survive, as their boiling point is higher than the temp itself…thats my thinking
Somehow I got unsubscribed from your channel…but I'm happy to be back.
Great video. My compost pile has been unsuccessful. I'm implementing changes this year, so I am looking forward to using the compost tea…eventually. All that to say, is there away to use food scraps not turned to compost, say, for example adding water to brown bananas I pulled out of my freezer???
Excellent, thank you . I can use the same for potted plants??? My friend adds sugar and leaves it for 24 hours before using on plants. Is that going to make any difference?
I was watching one of your other videos on compost tea but I can't seem to find it again but anyway, you mentioned in that video that you should not use city water because of the chlorine but you filled your bucket with water from your home. I have built several of the Johnson Su bioreactors, I have the automatic watering system on them. I have not noticed any problems with them but you got me thinking about it. I have not seen anything about not using city water in any type of composting. If I need to let water sit for the 24 hours I have no idea how I would store enough water to water these reactors and also so I don't have to lift buckets and water by hand every day. I would need to plumb and wire a pump to pump water from several large barrels. I live in Utah so rain barrels don't do us much good. Is the water from our taps really that big of a deal? I have watched other people on you tube say that the amount of chlorine in our water is very miniscule and does not harm anything. I have talked with my state about it and they say the same thing but I still wonder. Is there any rock solid evidence on tap water being harmful to composting?
Can you use this on cuttings that have rooted in water and are ready for putting into soil. Could I put them in soil and pour compost tea on them?
Wouldn't tap water kill bacteria and fungus because of the chlorine and fluoride that's in it?
Fantastic! My first exposure to compost tea was when I got my PDC and the fear of it was instilled in me…I'm lucky to have lots of trees with OM underneath, so I'll be able to do this right away. Subbed, even though I'm in Florida!
