VIDEO: Crossing the WATAUGA~The Road to Kings Mountain 2021

Come along for the crossing of the Watauga to the Muster at Sycamore Shoals as we travel to Victory at The Battle of Kings Mountain! “September 25, 1780. Muster at Sycamore Shoals! Col.
Many men have brought their families with them for safety at the fort. Others are alone, but all are determined to put an end to this threat! Almost all brought their horses. Those who did not will probably have to stay behind and defend our homesteads. It is the largest gathering of humanity many have ever seen. Mary Patton has supplied us with 500 pounds of the finest black powder available. Without her powder we could not begin our mission.” ~ Overmountain Victory Trail Association

  1. I live near a town called Vincennes Indiana. It was where French and British had a Fort called Fort Sackville. This is where George Rodgers Clark defeated them and help secure expansion west of the Appalachians. They do a reenactment every year. Its pretty interesting knowing about how history…thanks for your story of your area…I still think it's important..even tho some may differ.

  2. Very cool! Haven’t been there yet being from Southport N.C , I’m fascinated by the history of the revolutionary war. Thanks for sharing! Loved seeing u and hubby all dressed up and loved that walking stick! Gonna make me one lol

  3. I told my Dad who is in the first stages of dementia I was thinking about retiring in the Appalachian mountain area in a couple years. His comment was I was following the roots of my Mothers family. They ran to the mountains during the great depression. Family had a cabin somewhere in the mountains, just don't know where. Probably lost before I was out of diapers from not paying property taxes or the land taken for a government park.

  4. Omgoodness I seen my hometown Cowpens on this video, made me homesick. Last time I was in Kings Mountain was about 3 and a half decades ago back when I was in high school. I sure enjoyed this video.

  5. Beautiful! The people stayed in character so well I thought I jumped into a time machine lol! I could listen to their stories without end! Thank you so much for sharing! God bless!

  6. I visited Elizabethton a year and a half ago and fell in love with the area. I loved learning the history and so I very much enjoyed your crossing the Watauga. So wonderful!

  7. This is what America was and was build on, and now we will be like them soon storing food and working hard. Thank you Patara for sharing this. This country needs to see this..

  8. I had an Edgemon ancestor fight in that battle. A few years ago, I met a man at the Sevierville genealogy library who was from out of state. We were distantly related through another line. He had an ancestor who fought for the British in that battle and was captured. Never know who you are going to meet, or how, through time, your families interacted.
