SO Grateful for you sharing your "rookie mistakes" – they are potentially life saving. In my journey I have found it is those little details that you don't learn until you actually do something.

We have been milking our Jersey for two months now and the only way to get the cream was to bring the calf in and let her nurse for 5 minutes and then finish milking. Just in the last couple of weeks the calf is eating more hay/grass and our Honey is giving a complete let down before her calf nurses. I have no idea if that is normal but it is what we have been through :). So appreciate your honesty and courage.
I sincerely appreciate you sharing the very real journey of having your first cow. So much more can be learned from seeing all the steps and missteps. So many of us are watching and learning as we wait in our classrooms.

A good hint for you, is to calf share until you have built up your strength and stamina. And build up your rapport. That way you run less risk of mastitis from not stripping her out fully.

Oh Jess, I love your calm, generous, sweet nature. Your videos are inspirational and relaxing. I've watched every one of your videos for the past 2 years and I've never seen this amazing fire in you mama bear! Yes, stand up for yourself, be proud of the obstacles and challenges you've overcome because you weren't afraid to be 'ignorant' as you say (I would just say…new to cow owning…?) Nobody can expect you to know everything, or to get everything right, and I'm pretty sure the majority of your viewers share my view that we would rather see your 'failures' if you could even call them that…and see you learn from them. That is why you are our classroom. Please keep learning from your mistakes, and becoming a better homesteader, and person, because of it
