Nice box of seeds Jay 🙂 In our 50gal half barrel the roots grew right to the edge if that helps.. I planted a lot more intensively in the IBC beds as they are easy to feed & water so thought it was worth a crack.. The rhizomes were planted anywhere from 25mm/1" to 50mm/2" deep in different pots & all but 1 of the 20ish plants sprouted.. Hope that helps some Sir & have fun growing them 🙂
Tell me about it Jay! I'm super happy for you and I'm the same way, I get excited about these things! 🙂 I know nothing about Yacon but I'm willing to learn with you brother. Well done Jay, this was a very well worded video from you!
i have never heard of the yacon so looking forward to learning how it grows. I am however growing turmeric from rhizomes and only planted then 2 inches deep, so far so good
I understand your pleasure with receiving seeds. I feel just the same! 🙂 Got a new packet of seeds today, ordered from realseeds.co.uk. Must say I got very pleased with the short delivery time, and the seed bags look real great! I like the retrospective layout on the bags. First time I`ve purcased from them, and I really appreciate their great service. (And their other work against the EU-seed laws) Sure going to buy from them again.
Nice box of seeds J. Where did you get them. Yakon I had never heard of before I saw Robs stuff I had it in my head that i would not be able to grow them here. Now I want to try. Great vid J. Dave
I had to laugh in the beginning when you talked about how receiving a box of seeds excites you because I can totally relate. I can remember when I was in my early twenties, I would receive a Burpee Catalog in the mail and act like a school kid. I was dirt poor and could barely scrape together enough money to buy one or two packets. Every time the Postman came by, I'd run to the mail box to see if they'd arrived. lol. Anyway, that sounds like a real interesting plant and so beneficial. I can't wait to see how it does for you.
Yayyyyyyy, the Postman arrived with your seeds,…..hehehehe,…them thar seeds ya got there good buddy are worth more than the box of gold you could also receive, hmm…yacon, i might have heard of this plant from John Coley, from growingyourgreens(dot)com, but you've stirred my curiosity about this plant, thumbs up Jay!!
Oh man! Awesome that you got your hands on some Yacon. I am in Washington, and am planning on taking an trip to a couple of nurseries down in Oregon so I can get some Yacon, as well as some other Andean tubers and exotic plants! I am so excited. This is going to be a major purchase and I have been saving!
Looking at some pics id say 150cm planted apart, large plant, i bet its hungry. Sorry i dont know anything about germinating & planting rhizomes.

That is a bunch of seeds! I have never tried planting Yucca, but I will be interested to see how it works. It is supposed to be really good for you.
