Watching market gardeners move toward free labour, book deals, consulting work, and workshops/classes really makes me wonder if market gardening can provide a very good living wage alone.

Wow. An internship program is incredibly generous! 6 weeks of learning how to crush it! Fantastic.
I worked on a farm once. Got worked to the bone but Mr. Farmer gave us food and a place to sleep. It was ok for a couple months. Wouldnt pay for it, tho.
Sucks, have like 0 availability while this is happening. Well, just going to buy your book for now. Then do your online classes eventually.
Ive just stumbled on your videos today, and after a few minutes of video i was sold- id really like to try it out (on a small homesteading level). so ill most likely purchase your book at my local Chapters.
However something I've realized you don't do is urban beekeeping; it increases the yield of flowering crops, and gets honey. Now you don't personally have to tend to them- just find a beekeeper that needs a few hives located, and the synergy works at no cost to you, and might get a sweet incentive as a bonus. Its really a hands-off practice, with periodic inspections (Ive done some in nothing but jeans and a t-shirt- no protective gear at all).
I see mostly greens, and micro-greens in the videos, and would think that would be detrimental to the bees, tomatoes however would be a boon.
I'd start talking to a beekeeper, and see if what you are doing can work well with your business model, and the crop the bees would need to pollinate.
Good day Curtis, what is the average price per day to stay in Canada from those people you know? I would like to expand my farm by incorporating new and innovative practices, as I live in Namibia, it will be winter from june/july for me, it would be a great idea to do something like this for the experience. If you had more details of the costs involved it would be easier to budget around it.

To those challenging on the grounds of "slave labour" – It's not 6 weeks of work … it's 6 weeks of 'FREE' on the job training!
My only doubt is … Can i afford the time and juggle other commitments!

I live in Kelowna and have been following your for a little while since I first stumped upon you, even bought your book! I'm very interested in what you do and regardless of this internship program you have, I still want to meet with you sometime and pick your brain. But I do have a question: during this intern, what hours of the day/week do you need us to qualify? Seeings how I'm a local, I do work, and that might make it hard to schedule around.

Would love to know what questions you asked these interns during the interview process. I may have an opportunity to do the same on my farm. My hope is that this intern will be a future employee that already knows how things work on my farm.
