  1. I'm exactly the same way! I think of the worst case scenario too and it's not bad because then you can plan for it. I also work in the insurance industry so I have seen some seriously unexpected stuff. You two are just so adorable together and I love the laughter and smiles that you share.

  2. What about adding a quick release for your camera onto some place in the barn, like on the tops of the stall dividers or something, so when your busy calving or something you don't have to worry about your expensive camera getting knocked over? Since you have these permanent structures that will repeatedly serve the same purpose, that you tend to record, to me it makes since… but im a total klutz as are most of my family lol.

  3. Life hack if you have half a million dollars: You could buy multiple dog food bowls for the days when you don’t have the time to search for 45 minutes to find it. Just bring out one of the new ones…”Hey, Gabriel! Found it!” And just keep the stack in rotation…as you find them hidden around the property add them to the stash. (Because ain’t nobody got time for that!)

  4. If you’re still making mozzarella cheese this recipe on Diners Drive Ins and Dives looked like a great appetizer for movie night.
It was episode Pork Hall of Fameh 12/26/14…..they roll the cheese out and fill it and roll up then slice….

  5. What about instead of making the guillotine wall, make a hinged wall? Like hinge it in the center, then you can unpin it, fold it and push it up against the outside wall?

  6. Question:
When you and the kids are all ranging around the farm, do you use walkie talkies to keep in touch so no one has to walk around searching the place for Mom/Dad/Kiddo?

  7. All the people around us (including Amish) who raise calves keep about 200 and they have pens that get raised and lowered according to the calves' point of development (bottle to feed).

  8. Would it be easier (and safer to Jess’ point) to put the panel you need to move in the stalls on a hinge of some sort that way it can open up and be secured against the outside barn wall?

  9. I'm looking at your barn progress and I'm hearing you talk about the brooder stall for chicks… I'm looking at all that open dirt and the open space under the walls… and I had an immediate panic flashback to Justin Rhodes videos about dealing with the problem of rats in his chick brooder stall. As I recall he lost ALL of his chicks in one go. Nasty, that. And sad.
So, I'm HOPING that you remembered that same set of videos and the advice he got from Joel Salatin and the changes he made to his brooder stall. I'd just take it as a big reassurance if you'd talk some about that in a future barn stall progress update video, because I would really hate to see you guys have to re-learn that same lesson the way Justin did, simply because you hadn't thought about it. Hopefully you already did and I'm panicking for no reason. If not, I hope you go watch Justin's videos about the brooder and the changes they made to secure it against rodent invasion. As I recall, it involves a bunch of tight mesh screen like hardware cloth or something similar.
Next, I want to ask about ELDERBERRIES.
Jess, have you ever tried re-hydrating some of those berries to see if you can get some seeds from them? I wonder if you can grow elderberries on your new property… then you could harvest your own elderberries and of course dry them and make your own syrup and tea and maybe even pie… who even knows what the limits are. Actually, this kinda begs the question of what-all berries are already growing wild on your land. Have you seen any? I'd love to know what-all wild or volunteer foods you've found out there. That could be a great video for Spring when those things are starting to come up around the old fence-lines or by the pond, etc.
Wait… do you even know, yet, what grows wild on your property? Ooooo… could this be a project of Discovery you have awaiting you for this year? That could be fun.
Whatever's next, I'm looking forward to it.

  10. Might I be the first to suggest that you set aside a space on the Farm for the two Noahs… and call it 'Noah Vale'?
That way they (and you) get to say "We have moved to Noah Vale." (You have to say it out loud.)

  11. 15:00 Elderberry – in here (Czechia) its growing pretty much everywhere, so almost every family have some "family recipe" for elderberry syrup / liqueur. For me and my family its always been: pot of elderberries, 1l of water, 1 cup of very strong coffee, 1cup of rum, 1kg of sugar, 1 vanilla pod. And we basicly just boil the berries for 15mins ~, then we mush em and add that sugar, coffee, vanilla and boil it for like 3-5mins. And then we strain it well, add the rum and bottle it up. And its delicious. 😀
