  1. Good job, Patara, safety first! I would like to add one more reason for removing the rings: If you have a jar of canned goods, sitting in the storage area, with the ring on, and the contents go bad, it could/will probably cause the jar to break or crack. With the ring off, and the contents go bad, the only thing that will happen is the lid will lose its seal and the contents will stay in the jar. If a jar cracks or breaks apart in your storage area, you have a mess to clean up.

  2. I agree with what you said about the safety reasons for removing the rings! Safety in home canning is very important in my opinion! I also wanted to say that those pears look wonderful! Would you be interested in making a video on these? Is the recipe in a Ball canning book?

  3. Hello: Like in reloading Ammo, Go by the Book. I can look at the lid and tell if it's sealed, but it's best to push down on the lid to find out. That is the real test.

  4. Just seeking a little clarification re: double stacking them… are you saying that they never should be double stacked (even after cooling and sealing) or that they should not be double stacked during the cooling process only? I am a beginner canner (I now have more lemon curd than I know what to do with, for example) so just want to make sure that I'm doing everything as safely and cleanly as possible, thanks!

  5. Hi Patara, thank you for sharing this vital information. just a quick question regarding the popped jars, is it ok to put a fresh lid on those and put them in the water bath/pressure canner a second time? Thanks hun. Alex

  6. Love this video! on the subject of pear trees, I've discovered that mine get blight on them if we don't have a cold enough winter. We had a mild winter last year and my trees bloomed and set fruit. Then another cold snap and more blooms, but the second set all got blight. Thankfully, I will be getting a harvest this year, just not a very big one.

  7. Hey Miss P! I noticed you are using Cassia Cinnamon. I also think I remember hearing you say you really like cinnamon in previous videos. Please check into the difference of Ceylon and Cassia. Cassia contains a lot of coumarin, which can be toxic in large
quantities. It is much safer to choose Ceylon if you eat a lot of
cinnamon. Thank you for posting another canning video with this vital information regarding rings and stacking. I want yall to know I am really thinking of Miss Belle these days. The best way I have learned to pray is not to ask for the change from sickness to wellness, but to remember the wellness and forget the sickness. So that is what I have been doing for her. Yall take care and stay well.

  8. thank you Patara!! i am just getting into the canning world…i always froze before so now its time….i did get 2 cases of jars and all giddy to start..but so far i have canned dish soap(made a ball jar soap dispenser) homemade hand lotion and my measuring spoons……lolol but i am collection info and i am inspired….smiles and tkx again

  9. I want to purchase the Ball canning book through your link, maybe I overlooked it but I didn't see it on this video. I know I've seen it before but I cannot remember which video I saw it on. Also, I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your channel, I have learned so much and I just completely admire and respect you. I have made several "baby steps" in my life because of things I have learned from you…. thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, you are an inspiration!

  10. love this video, just learning how to garden and can, as soon as you said no no, I ran to my pantry and removed the rims from few jars of apple sauce, my question is do I remove rims from freezer jam also? thank you
