Thanks for the update! I started some peppers back in mid November. I already have flowering plants. I topped most of them but I let a few go just to see if I can get them to fruit in the house. These things are going to be huge by the time I get to plant them in June. BTW: Is that a fly rod that I see behind you?
Is it that time of year, already???
When do we start the tomatoes??? ๐
I'm not much of a help when it comes to this aquaponics stuff, my learning curve is much behind you at the moment…it's my knowledge that any darkening of the roots is bad? I'm glad it's working out nicely like you planned overall, I like it!ย
Like the shirt!
Is the water affecting the fish?ย Should there be a water change?
Looks good Luke! ย I am thinking I may set up another Aquaponics system ๐ ย not quite what you have been doing but something between ;). ย I will probably try it in the fall ๐ ย It is exciting to start planning for the garden and get things going!! ย
I'm glad you decided to try it out and that it has done so well ๐
Nice update.ย the system seems to be working fine.
Curious, is there any smell with that set up in the house? I considered an aquaponic set up – but fish, no filtration, and seaweed extract? Lemme know. Basil seems to be enjoying it! Good update vid!
Glad to see the aquaponics system doing well. I look forward to the grow room and greenhouse updates!
Hey! I love this set up and I'm wondering about the no-algae situation. What is the green mass forming on the underside of the float tray (around 1:06)?
Yay! It is doing immensely well ๐ great job!
Nice fishing rod behind you ๐
My fish keep on dying and I don't know why. What am I doing wrong?
Keep us posted on this man! Nice work ๐
. The system does not have to remain closed. You can clean the tank by removing some of the water and adding some new declorinated water. you can use the removed water to water other plants. Balance it with fish health.ย Pump out some gunk water from the bottom in the rocks. It is great plant fertilizer. I think you are going to get ammonia build up.
Rosemary works great with this hybrid setup.ย I keep my 10 gal tank by a window and cover the sides with cardboard.ย
Where did you buy/order the Nitrozime from?
why not just add more fish to gain more waste/food-instead of the Nitrazyme solution-But I love it all around-This is the future! As food and water becomes more scarce, you hold a serious tool in your tool box if you have this knowledge-I digress-good stuff guys
Those poor fish you can hardly see them!!
I'm think to make this set up. Do you think a 5 gallon tank will work?
This is the first I've heard of feeding the fish. I have been under the impression that the fish get fed from the plants?
can i do this with a salad mix? like spinach and lettuce and such? also, was that green stuff on the bottom of your raft mold?
your water is going brown because of multiple issues. you are probably over feeding. there is no filtering system, the water doesnt flow through the media (substrate) so the particles of unconverted decay of food is not being captured inside the gravel at the bottom. also yes you will most definitely algae floating around the water since if you are over feeding, and if your bacteria and strong enough to convert all the ammonia into nitrates, you still dont have enough plants to eat up all the nitrates, therefore there is more then enough 'food' for the plants to share with algae. you can do minor changes to fix all of this.
Make a solution of great white beneficial innoculent into a cup of water. Stir it up, then take each cup out and dip it into the innoculent, put the tank cover over another container and let sit for 30 to 45 mins to dry out just a little but not fully, then put the cover back on the fish tank. That brown stuff is pythium and is eating the roots, the beneficial innoculent will kill the pythium and help the plants absorb nutrients much better.
I kinda made a system like this when I was younger but I made it so the plants were on top the fish and plants are still alive today that was 5 years ago I still have the same fish all of my freshwater tanks have a growbed on top know
the fish are less active so your ratio of nutrients to oxygen for the fish…is it off?
Fish live in lakes and ponds and the water in those natural bodies aren't perfectly "clean" and fish are just happy as can be. Why? Because murky water isn't bad as long as ammonia and nitrate aren't present and the system is aerobic. So stop complaining about the brown water. The fish are fine, people!
