  1. I teach Ojibwe language at various schools…Some common subjects that many students love to learn first is…

    1) Basic conversational talk and questions …examples are "How to say this and that",How are you my friend, Nice to meet you, its a good day, etc etc..) Just ask them (the language learners) to spend a week and pay attention to how people greet them, what they say and get the proper translation of your own basic conversation with others…and practice it in the language instead of english.
    a) Greeting & introductions (Hi, thank you, my name is , where I am from , what is your name? where you from ? etc)
    b) Kitchen conversations and items (Kitchen and cooking items and food, description of food taste, asking for items)
    c) Home conversations ( Wearing cloths, Interrogatives = Where, when , why , who, what, how many, etc)
    d) colors , weather, numbers, family members, Body parts, feelings, clothing, wild and domestic animals, months of the year, geography, plants, tools, furniture, buildings

☑️I always tell Language learners, to post different language signs around their home , to remind them to think in the language….
☑️practice, practice, practice on their family members, friends and pets, homestead animals.
Repitition is the mother of all learning.
☑️Always get themselves an elder/ 1st speaker Language mentor to assist them in learning.
☑️For the advanced learners, I tell them to create their own audio recordings of the language (mp3) to listen to daily, so they will have the pronunciation correct and have the constant audio , around to practice with.
    cheers

  2. I bought my tickets to the Great Appalachian Homesteading conference! I have NO way to print them out!! I'm going to show up and pray I can get in with what I have on my phone! Maybe you can tell me what they will do, once I get to the conference!!

  3. As far as the Cherokee language, my children's Father's Grandmother was Cherokee. I am intrigued with this language. Is there a way to learn online yet or can we get the classroom paperwork so we can learn also?

  4. My mother is the daughter of Mohawk Iroquois Nation (mother) AND Sioux Nation (father) in blood only. Not tribal members. Always great to learn our ancestors ways. I was only taught a little but that little goes along way. Hello my brothers and sisters of Turtle Island! Got to get that cd to add to my collection.

  5. This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing this. I have always wondered about the Native languages. I've done my DNA and my path does not go back to the Tribes but I have always been fascinated by their history and traditions. Are all the people in the class of Cherokee descent? Again thank you for sharing something so close to your heart.
