Years ago I grew one in my garden. Used an old umbrella skeleton as a trellis for it and became its own identity until The gulf fritillaries caterpillar decimated it as it is one of its main sources of food. I’m in zone 8b high desert SoCal.

fresh herbs are a luxury to many- I know I rarely have the fresh stuff I generally have to rely on the stuff from a bottle when you are pinching pennys thats what it is but to be able to plant it and then save the seeds to replant next year if you live where lots of things will not over winter well yeah thats my new goal now that I retired this year my garden is gonna be one of my new goals/career choices haaahaa

About your chives: eat the flowers!! They need to be in salads, they are oh, so pretty, and pretty tasty too.
Hand picked nursery bareroot strawberries are amazing and had best luck with them this year. He is a marine veteran and sells lots of bareroots
Jess, have you ever thought about setting up a water capture system? (Maybe you have brought this up before and I missed it. Also to note I am not fully through this video yet. I wanted to ask this before I forgot.)
Side question: Have you heard of Kevin from Epic Gardening/ Epic Homestead here on youtube? He put in a whole rain water capture system (among other things.)
I’m a cucuzzi melon years old viewer. Didn’t it choke out some of the huge sunflowers too? They were fighting for sunlight and the melon won.
I had a huge problem with purple wild iris on the northernmost coast of California. It was taking over my pasture, couldn't even get pigs to uproot it.
Fresh herbs are one of my little luxuries too. Not sure why, just seems so abundant.
I am going to seriously need to consider importing some greenstalks to the UK. My cheap tower planters are way too shallow to actually grow anything 🙁 even my poor strawberries are dying

That's my dream to have a big herb garden. I have a daughter with food intolerances, including onion, garlic and many vegetables. I buy probably at least 10 bunches of herbs every week. 🙂 It substitutes a lot of other flavors well!

I live in Az, I planted a passion vine last late summer, supposedly it can grow fruit without a second one, mine is growing like crazy, flowers are getting ready to open, I have a huge covered Awning where I put a green house under, so it’s already climbing, if it gets to invasive just trim it down, I planted luffa also for climbing the awning, I love that jungle vineyard feel, I kinda like things to just grow everywhere
Love your garden tours. My mum always planted climbers in threes. Usually included one rich coloured and one white clematis and a rose. We’d call them ready, steady and go. Family/friends language. “Is that ‘Ready’, mums?”. “No”, she’d reply, “That’s “Steady.” Always a giggle…
Just a note. Jess and I live in the same hardiness zone (8a) and a similar last frost date, yet I haven't seen a temp above 60°f /15°C. Hardiness involves minimum temps, frost dates last chance for freezing, and then there are heat days. I do not reach beyond 85°f /30°C until July if lucky. All of this is important to growing things.

I was gonna say that too. A kitchen garden, salsa/herb garden. Zinnias for sure. They are so enchanting. I have a big balcony garden. After my husband passed those Zinnias helped me to keep living.
