My blackberries give one crop this month and the raspberries a summer and fall crop. It is nice to eat them and share them with the dogs. Unfortunately the old Yorkie I took in last fall doesn’t like them.
Strawberries man….I bought 1 plan early last year….now I have 6 with lots of new runners creating the third generation . Didn't do anything to it, it's creating a patch by itself and I am starting to harvest weekly enough for a nice Sunday breakfast
My strawberries are in full bloom (planted about a month ago) and my apple trees have fruit (planted last fall). True, the apples are columnar and the tree trunk showed 3 or 4 years of growth when I bought it. My gooseberry bush (planted last year) is now full of fruit, as are the raspberries, also full of runners.
On the other hand, my thornless blackberry didn't show much growth last year and I wondered if it will make it. It made it and this year it exploded with growth. No blooms yet. My blueberry was struggling last year and it was also eaten to the ground by some critter. It is now 3 feet tall! And now you tell me I'll need another one for pollination… Well, I guess I'll have to make a sacrifice 🙂

Mulberry trees are a great beginner fruit tree imo. Once they get established they will pump out berries and you can’t buy them in super markets because of how delicate they can be.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm a new gardener and just a little intimidated by fruit! I will try some berries now! Kisses for the Boss! My dog Lucy just realized that all these new fabric containers have food growing in them! Today I caught her helping herself to some baby lettuce! I will have to keep an eye on her lest she harvest all my veggies for herself!

I hear 'Mara de bois' strawberry is the most flavorful. I just put 6 in the ground the other day.
How large is the food forest?
I recommend Clove currants, very tasty.
The Bible says that a good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children–that's my goal. At near 66 years old, I'm setting up my three acres for my grandchildren. I may or may not see fruit/nuts from the trees I'm planting, but they will. It is however, gratifying to have some production from fruit bearing plants, especially those that will continue to produce well into their adult lives. I want them to look at the food forest I built and think "Papa did this for me."

Great video! Not only do i have all 3 of these fruits planted thanks to you and Tuck but you've also inspired me to put a Nikitas gift persimmon and peach tree in my garden. Im on Long island so basically the same zone as you thats why i copy every variety you grow. Ive watched like 90% of your videos, thanks for the inspiration!
Great video James and Tuck! 1) Which disease-resistant strawberry and raspberry varieties do you recommend? Which blueberry variety? 2) What type of wood did you use to build your tomato trellis and what sizes? We're thinking of using douglas fir 2 in. x 4 in. x 8 ft, and splitting them down the middle to make 1 in. x 2 in. x 8 ft pieces for the trellis. I think they're only about $3 each. Thank you again, learning a lot from your excellent videos.

It really is crazy how much better homegrown strawberries taste.
My raspberries and blackberries are in big pots still and do fine with a little care.
I struggle big time with blueberries, I've only got 2 sad-looking bushes in pots left that give a small number of berries.
My soil is a little alkaline, so I've been trying to grow them in pots but haven't worked out a good way yet.
I do agree with your choices though, the tree fruits take so long to come in, and you need something to give you a confidence boost while you're waiting.
