  1. Too bad about the mushrooms Adam. I will do sets for my dad in his garden, it's the only way he plants them. I am doing from seed this year to see how they do. Did them from plants I purchased last year, and they did great. Spring is coming! Catherine

  2. Funny things mushrooms. believe it or not, the study of mushrooms was part of my building college course. dry rot is a mushroom as is damp staining. It needs three things to grow, humidity, darkness and last of all still air. Stop anyone of the three no mushrooms. You cant do anything about humidity one person gives off 3 pints of water. same with darkness the back of a cupboard is always dark, therefore the favorite is usually air circulation i.e.no mushrooms. I am trying seed sowing of onions as well as sets. No success as yet. Take care Mike B

  3. Hi Adam, I have a Mushroom Kit from Wilko's, The Yield has not been great but I have had some golf ball size shrooms. I have started my Onion sets indoors also in the conservatory (Wife not best pleased, Need to get a greenhouse.) My spuds are chitting at the moment & will be growing them in 30ltr tubs this year. Nice update mate. Thank's for sharing.

  4. Hi Adam mushrooms i have had the experience with mushroom packs not one kit but 10 yeah! Now success yes on dads farm in Utah he grew his mushrooms in one of the disused pig sty's none also as a pig pen ….. I can remember opening the top half of the split door and seein all of at lest a 100 little white mushrooms a growin .. in a compost of chicken/ horse/ cow/ rabbit/manure mixed with household kitchen garbage He also had his own mix of spent tomato compost all mixed together into a rich black compost … After growin mushrooms he then would use the mushroom compost to grow prize tomatoes cucumbers peppers chillies … My only regret is i never tuck notice of his gardening skills… My only love was motor racing.. Bonneville salt flats speed trials..I did in the end own my own Classic car dealerships.. so now i need some of your gardening skills Adam….thanks for the posting on onions all the best….Ed

  5. Sorry to hear about the shrooms. No onions this year, just leeks. Four years now & I grew on onion. Time to start going with what works for me. Thanx for the post.

  6. Hi mate, sorry that the mushrooms didn’t do well for you. It probably was the Kit. Those onion sets looked good. I’ve ordered heat treated sets and they are due to arrive this week so I’ll probably set them going when the soil warms up a bit. Take care. Nick

  7. Great video. As always, clear and comfortable to watch. That Mushroom kit was to blame Adam. Bethan from Ginger Welsh Allotments has the Wilko one. I hope she gets results too. On price, I can tell you that I paid £4.50. The mushrooms are still romping away but being harvested just as quickly ; ) Good luck with the Onions, you've given them the best so they should reward likewise.

  8. We think our white onions bed, which was covered in scaff nettting, had a fox inside it during the last Beast from the East. As the ground and the growing onions were frozen many of the green shoots were broken off by the fox trampling on them as it was trying to get out. It did eventually get out (as it was not there, but a big rip was…) and I'm wondering and waiting to see whether the onions will actually bounce back.

  9. Nice video! I was thinking about getting a mushroom kit to try my hand at growing them. Maybe  the kit was old. Nice start on your onions. I should be planting my sets in a few days or so.  🙂
