VIDEO: I haven't seen the garden in a WEEK! (I love home) | VLOG

Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. When I come home from a trip, I get out of the car and tour around my yard to see how all my plant children are doing. Some look wonderful, and others look the worse for wear, especially in the summer. Heat stresses everything. I grew up on a farm in eastern NC, and summer was harvest time. We generally could not go on vacation. My mom taught school, and we couldn’t travel then either. But I button my yard up as best I can before I leave, and a neighbor waters the few things my irrigation can’t reach. But I love to get back home to see about my plants. It’s nice to know someone else does that too.

  2. I'm about two hours south of you in SC and transplanted Roma tomatoes into our garden in march. Doing them early allowed us to harvest about 10 gallons by Fourth of July ( this is out first year gardening so hopefully we will get more in future years). I pulled them out and replaced them with beefsteak starts and am eager to see if we get a harvest off of them. Depending on how they do, we might plant beefsteaks first next year and follow them up with Romas since they have a longer maturing time. All of that to say, the amounts of rain we've been having didn't have the chance to hurt out tomatoes but I hope you guys get a great harvest and they don't get too many blemishes.

  3. So glad you all had a wonderful time on your vacation! When you're older and your kids are grown you will treasure the memories and photos (because I am sure you took lots of those.) The garden is there year after year but each year the children grow and change. 🙂

  4. I’ve so missed seeing your garden tours. I’m so happy for you to finally have your garden back. I love the flowers too!! Did Jill keep the flower garden you had at your home in Arkansas? I’ve not seen it so was just wondering. It was absolutely beautiful

  5. Omg rain…LUCKY! My poor garden in west TN is suffering through this drought! We have like a 20% chance tonight, and I'm not ashamed to admit I did an impromptu rain dance earlier!

  6. Hi Jess, I know as a photographer myself and from watching you for years, you would appreciate some constructive criticism… Well I hope you would and that people will not slaughter me for saying this. Your videos have become somewhat difficult to watch, there was a lot of blur in this one… That is all I'm going to say.
Thank you for still teaching us so much about the garden, when people tell me I have green fingers, I tell them you thought me everything I know!

  7. I had the same reaction, when I got back home Sunday. With only the difference of a heatwave here in France and everything getting baked. I spent the last two days playing 'a doctor' and irigation is back on.
