Science disputes the idea that cut onions are “sponges” for absorbing bacteria. Cutting an onion triggers the release of enzymes that initiate a chemical reaction producing propenesulfenic acid, which in turn deconmposes to yield sulphuric acid. It is the sulphuric acid that makes you cry by irritating the eyes! But sulphuric acid also inhibits the growth of bacteria.

I’ve been keeping chopped onions in my fridge for years. Pretty sure that’s just a myth.

Did some research because I saw conflicting comments, in summation…
When handled properly, cut onions are not poisonous. After being cut, onions can be stored in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 7 days.
A widely circulated claim states uncooked, leftover onions are ‘poisonous’ because they’re ‘a huge magnet for bacteria,’ thus likely to spoil. In fact, the onion’s own juices are antimicrobial, which means they will fight bacteria rather than attract it.
This claim stems from a blog post that dates back to March 2008. While the original post was removed from the internet in 2009, part of that post continues to circulate the internet. Thus continuing the rumor.

I would love to see a video with your bread making
The breads are lovely. The nasturtiums were a good touch. Always love seeing Daniel visit the farm, even if it is a different one than before.
If you roll the kumquat between your fingers to release some of the oils, it will taste a bit sweeter and less bitter. They are delicious off the tree!
From the comments section, it appears you had a good time and all enjoyed the party. I am praying that your area does not get hit by Tropical Storm Nicole when it arrives along the Atlantic seaboard if it actually does criss cross Florida. These things are difficult to predict!

I don’t think that the onion thing is real, maybe there was a component of reality to it centuries ago, but they aren’t anymore prone to bacteria then any other veggie when handled with clean hands and stored properly.
