This was very helpful. Thanks, Luke! This summer was my first time growing sage. I started it from a plant start and was thrilled when I found out it was a perennial! I purchased another seedling of it on Etsy recently because I want to try to grow it inside during the winter. I'm so glad I decided to grow it because it goes very well with butternut squash soup!

I have enough dried sage from what I harvested last year. I only have one plant. I don’t understand why I would need to save the seeds unless I was sharing with friends. One sage plant is plenty for a family. It’s a hardy perennial here in Central Ohio.

Since you mentioned it – all that about tomato seeds…I spread seed from a ripe tomato onto a paper towel, let dry, and store on the paper towel in airtight bag. Done. No fermenting or washing or anything.

Does the Bergaten variety of sage set viable seeds? It has such large leaves.
Sage is such a pretty herb as it grows and it seems that the mosquitoes don't like it so much. I once saw a mature hedge of sage and it was amazing in bloom. Thanks for the video.

I have found if I transplant sage literally next to our basement wall where there is full sun and no water directly falling on it from roof…it will winter over just fine! Repot/move in spring. Our temps get very freezing cold!

I love my sage plant. It's a beast and one of my favorite herbs. Never occurred to me to save the seeds!
I went ahead and planted 4 small oregano plants on the edge of one of my garden walking paths knowing in a few years it will be a huge mass of awesome oregano.
I like to have a small tray with me and bend the branch over the tray and tap then cut the stem in case I missed ay seeds to share or move to another spot.
It’s impressive that a man who is in the business of selling seeds does videos teaching people to save their own seeds!

Love these seed saving videos! I grew some sage on a whim from one of those dollarstore 4/$1. I've been blown away by how much I've been able to get off the plant. I can't believe it even overwinters here in southern Ontario.

Oops. I think I harvested leaves to dry from all the new growth on my sage. That said, I had two large plants this year, though one suddenly died back at the end of summer. I imagine both will have some growth in the spring. I will watch for the flowers though, in case I left some new growth.
