I know that many people double net the brassicas though – pests can lay eggs on the netting next to the plants and they get through that way.
I've also used net curtains from the Op Shops.
Have you considered creating a forest garden? (A food forest (
I loved your great ideas but I had a question that hundreds of afids attack my garden do you have other solut8ons to this problem
great video thanks ben! definitely need to get some 5mm mesh netting by next year 🙂
Just a tip: I use rhubarb-slurry. You take a bucket, stuff it full with torn up rhubarbleaves, pour water on it till the bucket is filled and put it away for about 2 weeks. It will rot and get very smelly. You use the moisture of it 1:10 in a watering can and splash it over your young brassica's or over older ones. It makes the plants stronger and I guess they do not smell like brassica to insects that much anymore. You can put some green soap into it to make it stick more to the leaves, but I usually do without. If it raines a lot, it will help less, but the plants like it anyway. And the rhubarbleaves will be available. It does smell awfull. So better not spill any on your clothes.
I like to relocate caterpillars and slugs to my neighbors garden with a casual throw
you spray bt? its natural of course so are many other poisons, and you should never eat it. i wont kill you but may cause colon cancer over time!
Last year I fought and lost to the cabbage moths/worms despite BT, neem oil, etc. My daughter & I used your brassica protection plan this fall 2022 with the bamboo canes, turned over plastic bottles to support fine insect netting…. and it's working splendidly!! Thank you, from Georgia, USA I took pics to post but I don't see how to post them.
how you rid hundreds of earwigs, they ate all my crops this year?
Que bonitoooo! Me encanta como lo tiene de bien organizado,
The one pest that is the bane of my life is gooseberry sawfly. Are there any natural ways or companion plants to beat this monster please, please please?
Tip, make sure you garden on a garden complex. Your neighbour's will get the insects, you'll just have a couple aphids and mayhaps a dove or two.
Is BT restricted in the UK?
Best channel on gardening ever! Love your motivation and inspiration! Thank you❤
Thanks for the suggestion about using tulle as insect netting. I had worried about the cost and availability of the "real" stuff. Genius!
I've watched this quite a few times now, the "brassica massacre" gets me smiling every time 🙂
Netting is the best solution. It's quick, efficient, and instantly effective. Planting deterrent plants requires the time and resources for them to grow. Thank you for the vid.
Nasturtiums attract many of these pests, put them in first as a “sacrificial”…
Like the bottles!
These videos are like a Bible for me , thank you so much Ben for your wisdom and always great budget friendly tips !
