Good information. I may try to harvest seeds this year. On a side note, in college I lived in a real dump of a house, and the sewer would flood part of the yard from time to time. The last year I was there I found a forest of volunteer tomatoes growing from that spot…

Cheesecloth works well on the tops of the jars to keep flies out, reusable, cheaper than lids. Thanks for the video!

I've always saved pepper seeds hoping for cross-pollination just so I could roll the dice and see what I get. One year they were half-sized green bell peppers that tasted like a scotch bonnet having a bad day. Thinly sliced they were really cool in a salad.
Please help! I tried to save some seeds from a couple of favorite tomato plants, following what you said. The only thing I did differently was to cover with a paper towel "lid" since we have had fruit flies. After about 4 days it started to separate, but only barely, then it all floated back down to the bottom and after a week or so I just dumped it. Would really love to save my seeds though! Any advice?
Anyone have good luck not worrying so much about maintaining a "pure" strain year to year? I wonder if the plants are allowed to change a little they can maintain more of a balance with pest/disease pressure which seems to increase the longer a strain stays isolated genetically.
