This is very helpful. Unfortunately I lost my one and only zucchini plant to a borer. I did get a couple weeks of fruit off it, but it died this week.
watched the video and went to trimming….now we wait and see
Have you ever staked or caged your zucchini plants?
Thanks for the good tips, I though by taking away the branches I was doing it wrong, I am glad I watched your video.
Great info!!!
This is much more helpful than a video I saw last summer. Now I realize WHY I should be pruning back my zucchini and how. Thanks!
Thank you for the video just now on pruning your zucchini plant. I didn't get much fruit this year and now I know why
I have an issue with some of my yellow squash having hard skins. Why is that?
He looks like Clint Clark
What are the white spots on the leaves? You didn’t say anything about them. Is that fine? I have some like that and wasn’t sure if that was the mold or not. Thank you for the info!
Wish I’d seen this sooner thank you
Thank you. I planted close to other plants and both need leaves removed for air flow. I will also remove leaves from squash and cucumber so the flowers are visible.
A gentleman would use a knife to remove those stems.
This is one of my tasks for the day. They are almost chest high and very dense. Thank-you for the confirming and informative video. I shared it to my gardener friends on FB.
I planted 2 zucchini plants and I pruned and gave it fertilizer but all I got was Male flowers
Thank you we are growing in containers this year. Will be so helpful next season.
I'm so new to all this, but I'm wondering about using large clay pots next year for individual plants as pests seem to keep getting to the roots-everything then dies/ rots. I tried diatomaceous earth then neem oil this year, but was too late. I had a good harvest until then. Any thoughts ? I understand soil drainage/ excess moisture in pots is an issue.
I planted a tomatillo plant with my squash plants this year. It puts out a ton of small yellow flowers that attract quite a lot of pollinators to my raised bed.
What would you say is the optimum distance between them when planting?
Awesome info….needed it badly. Have both end rot and too many leaves. Going right to the garden to take care of that. 🙂
This is my first year for planting Zucchini in years. I needed some guidance on how to maintain them. Thanks for the info, I will get out in the next few days and remove more leaves than I have already.
Luke does that also reduce the squash bud issue since they don't have the underside of so many leaves to hide under? just curious cuz my squash bugs would always get on the leaves and the stems and not so much on the fruit.
Well I'll be ding DANG!!!! Thank you!!
When I pruned my zucchini, I found ear wigs living inside the hollow stems. I was shocked!
Good tips. This covers it pretty well. The only thing I would add is use scissors or a sharp knife to prune to avoid damage to the plant. Also cut the stalk down to about a cm from the plants main stem to prevent the stalks rotting and spreading disease.
Hi I was just wondering should i put bark on the soil around my zukini plant?
My issue is no female flowers. All male. Why?
This was great and you answered the question about why my baby zucchini was rotting. Thanks so much
