In this video, I show you what happens when you bury potatoes with duck eggs for fertiliser. We dig down and see what type of harvest we get and what became of the eggs!

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Spray your potatoes etc with Neem oil or similar product. The birds definitely will not like the taste.
Spiteful genetic mutants, those cockatoos!
Cockatoos are a spiteful bird.
So… I could be wrong, but did you put in approximatly 12 potatoes to end up with 17 big potatoes and a few small extra?
but for planting 10 you have only 30 ? uf…
It would be better to show what happens by doing a side by side comparison, showing the difference between what happens when potato sprouts from the same potato are cut and divided between two equal containers with like soil and compare the results between those grown with something added and some grown without them.
Plant some onions with the rest and have ready grown hash browns
Maybe the birds watch you weed and throw weeds on the ground, and they are just trying to help ;p
a duck lays eggs every day or 2? :O
So are these potatoes not vegan?
What do you call that shovel you keep on using? Not seeing something similar for sale anywhere near me
hope you forgive the cockatoos. they are smart but not necessarily spiteful.
Good testing out eggs as fertilizer for plants
my potatoes have fallen over, they never bloomed, what is the problem..
Why don't you sell the duck eggs for some side cash
Lol! Your hilarious!!!!! Wish you would try this with flowers
I am so happy too for the result of your effort, Sir! Thanks also for sharing this.
lol quack quack i love this guy
G’day Mark, on average how many kilos of potatoes do you think you’d get from each kilo planted?
I love you buddy. God bless.
Damn, how do i get those forearms
hello mark,
I see in your videos that you have quite a few animals,
I myself have a vegetable garden on a vegetable garden complex
and anyone who has chickens says keeping chickens is a tough job of what they need
as:
Free range,
diadem sand,
check for red mite every day,
check for feather louse,
check on lime feet,
and check food every day against mold due to weather changes
and chickens need a fairground attractions for relaxation, no problemo!!
but what about ducks? and especially indian runner ducks
what do they need and do they also get red mite, mite and vein diseases or are ducks the perfect vegetable garden animals ??
would you like to make a video about this?
couse i cant find any problems about ducks
I dig a hole, bury and brake unhatched eggs. The earthworms eat them.
Why have a double commercial right out of the gate? Now I have to exit your channel
I hope he gets into a war with the cockatoo, he does seem to have a certain level of animosity towards them lol
Don't you get more potatoes from a plant by piling soil around the stem as it grows larger ? Think my father told me this ages ago (He used to farm veggie crops in South Africa, not potatoes though)
Very interesting. Nice taters.
