Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. I had to force myself to keep watching after you showed the cabbage with the spiders. I eeeeked so loudly that my husband came into the kitchen to see what had happened, lol.
I would have murdered everyone of those bloody spiders. I'm trying to get over my little phobia but damn. That totally caught me by surprise.

  2. SO awesome seeing the Kookaburra getting the snake !! awesome. One good thing about Aussie is the wildlife..not so much the sharks tho and the snakes that bite you and kill you …oh and the spiders ….haha

  3. Avos don't want any organic material in the soil, as it rots it takes oxygen from the roots, causing root rot. Sand, lava rock, etc, but no compost etc in the soil. All organics on top as mulch.
