Very cool! I try to be no-till with my plots and try not to use any herbicides. I think leaving a mat like yours will benefit the soil life, hold moisture, and suppress weeds. I think my plots with hairy vetch, clover, and rye look better compared to the ones I'm forced to till. Have you looked into balansa clover? It's crazy huge in N, has a huge deep tap root almost comparable to a brassica, and bio mass is what it's known for. I'm thinking of removing the hairy vetch, red clover and radish from my mix and just doing balansa to lower cost and it does all the functions of the other 3. It's only 3# to the acre
When do you re seed your next crop if you don't have a no til drill before you roll and crimp? I like your pole idea I'll try that this spring.
