In this video I’ll show how I built our garage storage shelves. Scroll below to see the material list as well as two options for dimensions.
MATERIAL LIST
13 – 8’ 2x4s
2 – 4’x8’ sheets of 1/2” or thicker particle board or plywood
One small box each of:
2.5” wood screws
3” wood screws
1.5” wood screws
MY DIMENSIONS
I designed this shelf to hold my storage containers that are H15” x L28.5 x W19.5. I plan to hang 80” sliding doors from the shelves so their 82” height was designed with that in mind. If you’re interested in the dimensions on my shelf they are:
Height 82”
Length 86”
Shelf depth 22”
Shelf spacing 20.5” on center
ECONOMIC DIMENSIONS
If you don’t have specific dimensional needs, the must efficient and economical way to built this shelf would be:
Height 8’
Length 8’
Shelf depth 24’
Shelf spacing 20.5” on center

Can't wait to see the workbench come in place!
Good video but why with your skills didn't you build your own wooden shed? 5:41
Nice job
brilliantly simple design and crisp video. chopping the 2x4s was classic
Every single video you put up is so informative and useful! Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge and for creating such simple, concise, and informative videos!
What size screws did you use? 3 inch?
Great video. It would help if the music was not quite so loud, especially since we have to listen to get the instructions. When you are only working, the music is nice. When you are explaining the process and giving detailed dimensions, the music is too loud/distracting for some of us. HTH.
Your videos are excellent. You have the gift of being a doer/maker and the gift of being a teacher, all combined into one. Plus, your videos show both of these gifts in action. Very well done.
Ugh I used 2ft cross braces after I had already bought 2×4 sheets of plywood. Guess I wasn't thinking and now those won't fit the new depth created with the back and front horizontal 8 ft boards..my depth is 27inches now
I will have to use a wall that has cinder blocks. what type of fastener would you recommend
