In this video, I show how I converted a useless chicken treadle feeder into an excellent automatic no waste quail feeder that works like a charm!

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. I love the poultry videos! You have a great way of explaining they why behind the things you do. Many other channels do not seem to do such. I love seeing your homestead and all that goes with it! Keep em coming!

  2. It's not true Mark. Most people love a good diversity of videos. So you don't have to stick to only gardening videos. In fact I'm sure if you do more videos on birds, meat processing, eggs, etc it'll be great. It's a self sufficiency channel after all.

  3. I appreciate that you do occasional videos about poultry, and specifically chickens and quail, because that's what we raise and is of interest to us here. We do enjoy your gardening videos as well, but we don't have the space for a large garden and we don't have a long growing season.

  4. I bought this one and have it in my shed for the last 3 years as it was hopeless for the hen meal. Now I will do the same as you and put wood on bottom to keep it open for my quails.

  5. I would like to see & learn more about your duck & chickens.
    How to feed .
    When to feed.
Learn about free range ducks & chickens.
How to safely make coops .
What to do & not to do.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could spend time on a video to help educate myself & others.
    Thank you for your kindness.

  6. That brand is an Olba feeder, trademark plastic lid, feed tray, and treadle. And yeah they are pretty useless. Google ratproof feeder and you will find one with a counterweight and a spring loaded door that works.

  7. Hi Mark. I am late to view your quail videos. Learning a lot from you. I like your next door farmer tone. Rural people are willing to pass information if one is respectful of their knowledge. I actually subscribed for the quail. God bless.
