Scything is one way we are looking at towards reducing our dependence on oil and moving towards self-sufficiency. I really think it is such a great way to cut grass and you can see for yourself how well it cuts. If you are inspired (which I am sure you will be if you have a bit of land) then look up Austrian Scything. Here is the course my father and I took part in (UK) https://scythecymru.co.uk/courses/

this video makes up for the fact that I haven't properly been out in sunlight since 2019
Terrific tool. Need a good muscle to do the job.
ive never actually seen a scythe before because the grass doesnt grow like that in here
no you know what actually grass doesnt grow here
Efficient, great excersise, no fuel expenses, free food for animals.
Most of the gas lawn mower people are just using them to piss of their neighbours.
if i buy this, my parents might call the cops
if you want your yard to look like some idiot ripped the grass up sure use a scythe
I find it so funny watching this, as I was scything since I was 8 years old. Scything taught me father, He was taught by his…
ok so. 1 At the very back motion you lift the scythe from the ground. don't do it. make sure the scythe all the time lies on the ground.
2. before sharpening (which you did too short, make sure, you do it few more times to really sharpen the blde) make sure you push stuck the back of the scythe to the ground (the most important rule father taught me), to make sure it won't slip or fall when sharpening, as it can cut (out) your fingers
5:02 to 5:10 just….. so satisfying
The sharpening is scary and "every other minute"? You had me until that sharpening comment. We have MAJOR cane grass, huge and like glass fiber. I'm a clumsy lady (at times) with 10 rescue animals.. SO tired of stressing out over a weed eater (and line) a mower (no can do, too long) and so this is a last resort. This is by the way a half acre in front and then another in back (that we don't ever do).
I just want one so I can be death for Halloween
I've just bought a scythe and sharpener and gloves.
I've been in the horticultural industry for around 20 years and never tried one. But have be curious for the last 8 or so year's, but thats intensified in the last 4 month's or so.
I loved and was encouraged by your posting much. My battery operating grass cutter went dead today. Now I want to buy a large scythe like yours, which is no ways in Japan though. Anyway, seeing different gardening cultures is interesting. Thank you.
Good work out if you are planning to fit in those decade old Jeans.
Now I am become death.
Stodoys scripts includes most of woodworking plans you can find
very nice
How much is that scythe cost?
Thank you so much for this beautiful video.
This video makes me very happy
It's all fun and games till you throw out your back
fossil fuels? So let's all go back to lighting candles when we have lightbulbs? Idiots.
I want one but my neighbor will call the cops on me if she sees me cutting my grass with this.
to cut down the dependence on fossil fuels. Jesus h christ
Thank you for this. I am curious on the different ways of cutting grass without gas dependent methods, i.e. lawn motors. I also can't stand the noise of those things. Scythes seem like fun and without all of the noises. Can it be used on smaller lawns and areas?
Nice, I have to get one. Good exercise.
Good for you young Yeoman. Not enough of that anymore, I hope to buy some land one day and cultivate it.
I need to buy a Scythe
Do you still scythe?
