You may feel silly making such an "easy" video… but I am so glad you did. I'm re-watching it because I'm getting ready to put some pickles in the fridge for the first time… thanks to you! I appreciate you.
This may be a silly question but why must you boil the brine? Can't you just dissolve the salt in the room temp vinegar water solution? Does heating it serve a purpose?
Made refrigerator pickles and onions using your recipe – super easy and quick! They are delicious! Sharing a quart with my mom. I would have made my own pickles long before this if I would have known how simple these are to make. Love watching your videos and seeing your "wild" garden. Keep doing what you do – love seeing what your garden produces! Nothing better than eating vegetables you have grown yourself. 🙂
As silly easy as this recipe may seems I’m so grateful you made it! This is the first pickle I’m trying because I don’t have the equipment I need to hot water bath my pickles but I still really need to do something with my harvest so far. So this is officially my first pickling experience for my first garden! Thank you!
Hi Jess! Please don't think any of your recipes/ideas are silly. I, for one, have never heard of fridge pickles before. It's nice to have a way to use the extra cukes from the garden. I have lemon cucumbers, too. Could they be used, too? I've just started harvesting my cukes and will definitely be trying this recipe. How sweet does the sugar make the brine? Sorry about the questions, but I've never done this before. My husband peels and slices cucumbers, adds salt and covers with water, refrigerates overnight, drain and rinse the cucumbers, cover with half and half and add a little vinegar to taste. Sometimes he adds sliced green onions, too. It's really good. His Dad taught him how to make it. It's a German dish pronounced gaguma, but I don't know what the actual spelling is. Just thought I'd share with you since you are always sharing with us. Thank you for all you do and sharing!
We have lots of small squashes..hrlp!!!!
I love this recipe and so does everyone I share with at work "best homemade pickle ever"
Ohmygosh I have mine in the fridge for up to three months, put a couple of bay leaves and they stay nice and crunchy!
just came across your channel and am binging it!!! love this video, you were the first to show me I could quick pickle and feel motivated to do some with all the cherry tomatoes I have busting out of my garden!!!
I especially like that I don't have to use sugar in this. This is super easy and I appreciate you sharing this. Don't ever feel like something is not "worth sharing" everything is worth sharing to someone 🙂
Do you have to blanch cauliflower and carrots first?
Thank you!!
Thanks for great info!
if it smells off or taste off don't eat it.. if taste and smell is fine go for it. 😉
Did you skin the cucumbers?
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
I’m gonna try this today! We have an abundance of cukes right now, but I won’t stop there. Blessings…daisy
Im inspired! thankyou.I just did pickled cauliflower with dill, onions & chilli.
If by chance I do not have fresh dill, would it be ok to use dill seeds instead? It is a 50 mile round trip, from where I live, to go get fresh dill. Thank u for this simplified pickle recipe. The 2 jars of pickles I made last week, from a quick pickle video using g pickling spice etc, turned out not so tasty. Doesn't even taste like pickles at all. Good thing I have cucumbers producing well right now.
OMG here it is july 2021 and I saw this at the perfect time as my cucumbers are slow to ripen but to many to eat at once. Thank you Jess and much luck on your move. God bless you and your family.
"Turn your waiting room into a classroom." Dannngg that's inspiring!
Do u have to slice them?
Just the video I was looking for… at a very early learning stage of food preservation..
Great video and I am synthesizing the info from your canning video with this and thinking that this is great also to do with store bought it farm stand veggies even if you don't have your own garden.
