Rain this year is coming way too often. A few days of sunshine then a week of rain and low temps. Showing a few projects as well.
Do wood chips tie up nitrogen in the soil? That is one of the questions I am asked most often, and today we will look into it. Back on our other property. Looking at three volunteers. A Schwetzgen purple plum, a Mirabella plum and the wild roses wanted for the rose hips. Trying to get things cleaned up and reorganized after my long illness prevented work.

A little on the progress this year. A bad potting mix has set me back. Will be re-potting some things with my original mixture of compost and manure. Also a bit on a cherry harvest and tree pruning.
Part 2 of garden progression and planning.
Video on the work at home will come later but for now I am resuming work at the property away from home
Finally began bed prep on the separated properties. Slow but started. Finishing the grow room video I started last week. This time with the positive stuff.
The weather has not cooperated this year. Not really a surprise. The grow room has had disasters and successes. It has only served to convince me that I must concentrate on developing a small greenhouse for propagation purposes.
In our continuing quest to experiment with a multitude of permaculture techniques, this time we decided to construct a Back to Eden style garden bed… and in doing so, also prevented desertification! The seedlings in the grow room are doing well but have had a few losses. The garden now has been prepared with lots of compost dug in. The faster growing warm weather crops such as beans and squash will be started next week.
Just about ready to get more set out. I have a pepper problem I hope someone can help with.
This video will self destruct after a few days. Not the type of video I want to leave up long.

A bit of my springtime prep and what has hindered me for the last week.
I’ve been trying to grow okra for the past 2 years in a northern climate. The first year was a disaster. Last year I got healthy plants but not much produce. This year looks like I may have better success. For the most part I do not try to grow plants that are not native…
Starting the 2017 garden season. It is slow going but will pick up speed. So far we have peas and beets in the ground and a few broccoli seedlings to first test out the cold frame.
The rainwater collection point needed rebuilding.
A simple install turns into a nightmare!
Had not planned on making a third video for this subject of beginning gardening but a few comments on the other two and prepping for this years garden brought to mind a couple more
2016 was not so good for us. Dreadful, Furchtbar, awful, Schwerig! Good riddance! Things are evening out in our lives and hopefully will be looking up soon. I have finally recovered well enough from my long illness that I can go back to work at least part time. More on that later. We have a…
I had many appointments last week and did not get much accomplished. Hopefully more to come.
First cold frame build. Next one should be a bit easier now that I know how I want them. The video starts out a bit slow.
Old beds re-made and garden terraced. Realized I had re-learned an old lesson.
Time to finalize the winterizing of our Back to Eden Garden that is still producing a tremendous amount of tomatoes and basil! We got a tremendous amount of work done and enjoyed a little help from our special friends. Chickens are the perfect gardening companions! Enjoy & thanks for watching! ~ Like, Subscribe, Comment &…
