VIDEO: Chicken Feed Test for Laying Hens.mp4

I selected 6 different types of feed/food to check which feed my chickens like the best. This video shows the test and results – some chicken lovers might be surprised with the findings.
Also, I have written about this test in more detail on my blog http://www.selfsufficientme.com/

  1. Unfortunately the mixed corn does not give the chickens the correct balance and is certainly not the chickens natural diet, for a start it wouldnt get the correct levels of calcium for egg production especially during the moult. Mixed corn should oly be given to chickens as a treat and a commercially prepared diet takes all these factors into consideration.

  2. Yeah, that's a good point…Damn, I should have had a plate of bugs and that would have made for a more interesting video! We all know it would have went first. Cheers Mark ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Omg my girls love bread and corn ๐Ÿ™‚ and I've also seen one of my chickens eat a dead mouse eeeww and they Did fight over it chickens love everything good video ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Chickens along with pigs are the farms garbage disposal system. They'll eat you're kitchen scraps(no garlic or onion though) and your garden refuse.ย  If you practice some type of insect trapping in your garden(like collecting slugs in a bit of beer in a tin) , they'll eat those as well.. Bet if you put watermelon rinds down they would jump all over those .Got a brewery nearby? Collect their spent mash.Chickens go wild for it.

  5. Mine are picky. They seem to prefer grass over the pellets but will eat more of the pellets if it's bet wet not necessarily fermented but just wet enough to soak up a bunch of water and turned into like a peanut butter texture.

  6. Hilarious video of a scientifically-reached conclusion that has a direct and important impact on your life…and, of course, the chickens'. We homeschool and videos like this are gold. Still smiling…thanks.
