  1. Hello, Huw! I've re-potted many avocados, and they are quite sensitive to root-disturbance. After re-potting, I find it's best to keep the plants in full shade, and keep them evenly moist while the roots adjust…otherwise, they tend to drop their leaves. The brown tips on the older leaves can be due to a number of things: wind, sun, dry air, dry roots, wet roots, too much salt in the soil. Using a well-draining mix that can be flushed regularly keeps even the older leaves looking pristine.

  2. Avocados root close to the surface so place a layer of mulch to keep the soil evenly moist or leaves can turn brown however the plant disease avocado root rot can also make leaves brown. The other cause is very bright sun..hope that helps
