Exciting locality you`re working on. Appreciate following the progress of building up a garden from nearly scratch. Thanks for mentioning my channel in your video. I learnt a lot of other gardening channels as well, -youtube is a great resource. How are your tomato cuttings doing?
The building you cleaned, has a very interesting shape and appearance. Looking foreward to see the progress. Is it couch grass rhizomes you`ve dug up from that soil?

Well hindrances and disadvantages are just problems waiting to be solved. The incline of the plot seems to be advantageous to me, could have a very nice aquaponic setup or v effective downhill irrigation system. Lots of potential, not going to be short on ideas i bet.
You sure are getting a lot accomplished. I like watching you make progress. I also look forward to your future video on making a hot bed. What a beautiful view there is from that property. Breathtaking. Stay well, my friend.

Gosh, Jay, I do that, too. I'm always trying to imagine what things looked like way back in the past. Somehow, the old days, even long before I was born, seem so much more appealing than present days.

The tomato plants here seems to tolerate some frost nights, as long it`s not to many minus degrees. -2C and below, takes them down. However, the tomato fruits dont like frost. Then they turn brown and soft. I`m quite sure the cuttings will be ok.

Wow, -1500 years ago there where bandits all over Europe. The germanic tribes didn`t do anything but kill and fight. I`d think your garden would have had such as 3-4 different owners during a season. 🙂

True, there`s allways been wars around, and the tribal wars were ugly stuff. So it`s much more peaceful today. Wonder why they dont learn more of this kind of history in school?

The homestead has a lot of promise! You've really got me thinking more about hot beds. I've had trouble starting kale outside this fall because of the cabbage moths and slugs, so I'm thinking I might try to start some in a hot bed after the weather gets cold and the bugs are less of a problem.

I don't know if anyone else said this or not, but if you do put your compost bin under the walnut tree, you will want to make sure that it is covered. Part of the reason that things don't grow well under walnut trees (I'm sure that there is more to it) is because the husks of the walnuts are poisonous. I know that worms don't like hanging around in the ground where the husks have gotten wet.
I do know what you mean, Jay. I have about 2 acres of maintenance. I keep adding another project & my husband reminds me, I am suppose to be 'cutting back', if we want to keep this house. I ask myself, "what needs attention FIRST". Luckily, I have a lot of perennials. But you know weeding always needs attention. Keep your body healthy my friend and enjoy this BEAUTIFUL Fall.

Placing compost under the walnut tree might result in tainted compost, if the toxin leaches in, or leaves and roots get into it. Not sure how long it takes for the toxin to break down.
