VIDEO: How to Build a Vertical Strawberry Tower – 24 Plants in 4sq Feet!

*Please read* This is a must on your to-do list! Now this Strawberry planter is also feeding itself at the same time, how? Well watch the video to find out and learn a clever way. You don’t need to fill the whole barrel up with compost. This design is also very cheap and doesn’t take long to make. On the top of the barrel you could either plant more strawberry plants or a companion plant like borage.

I really hope you will enjoy this video and I had a great time making it. This is a must for any small space gardeners out there too. Please feel free to share this video on social media.

*In the start with drilling the holes there are two scenes that were meant to be only one and I never edited it out. Please go and like my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HuwsGardenNursery

  1. Please help this is my first year of growing strawberries and I'm very uneducated. I have three plants and I just found out that I can use it to grow more plants or take the runners off to grow strawberries. I had a few strawberries and they seem to either die or rot because they turned brown. My garden is in the ground and I have the black paper or whatever the proper name is and I also have shakers that I water with. My leaves look as if bugs have eaten little holes in them. I put egg shells on them to help with the bugs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the great tutorial

  2. Did this work at all?

    Potential hurdles were:

The downward drag from the composting action reducing the volume of the inner core

The excessive heat from the composting action

The challenge of keeping this thing irrigated in a way that keeps the top and bottom plants happy.

Trying to grow berries in the shade on the North side of this thing

Defending the barrels from birds and four legged critters.

If you had berries to show for your efforts, please let us know!

  3. A couple of people have asked if this experiment was a success but I can t seem to see your reply – did it work or did the decomposing material cause the centre to collapse inwards ?

  4. All good. Except papers. Have you thought how much different chemicals are in those papers, magazines, even simple cartoon. No need to place such trash in soil for growing food you will eat 🙁
