VIDEO: Aquafarm Review Pt. 1

The folks over at BackToTheRoots.com graciously hooked me up with an Aquafarm to test out. It’s probably one of the easier ways to break into aquaponics for a beginner, definitely when you consider price – only about $70 bucks.

  1. System looks nice !
Continuous F&D …. I think I'd call that constant hight. In effect it looks like a hybrid kratky-constant-hight sort of thing. Was surprised to see this set-up, as the looks somehow represent something I'm building, altho I'm into F&D. Was hoping I'd be original LOL.
Kratky has the roots submerged in the nutrient fluid, upper part exposed to air and while sucking up water & nutes, more roots are exposed to air, constant hight has a constant level of water in your grow-medium, only specific plants can stand that without too much of a prob.
F&D fills and drains the container all the way. The bacteria that turns the ammonia (NH3/NH4) into nitrates (NO3 = plantfood) are doing all the work: they are the filter. No need to add them, they will populate the media all by themselves if there is enough food for them and the conditions are favourable.
De-chlorination can, apart from letting the water stand for a day, also be reached by adding some vitamine C I think.
    Cheers !
