I think it should make new growth, have to be patient with ginger don't we? I should have done the same thing, I just brought the pot inside early fall, but noticed white flies in the soil after a few weeks, so next year I'll do has you did, dug them up give them a good rinse and replant in fresh soil. Thanks that was good thinking!

The one I brought in was very yellow but its picked up now a little now.
