  1. I know folks that use these as a cover over dirt floors in shops, sheds, stalls because they are so tough.  They hose off really well and if it is placed to drain to one side, you can save time on general cleaning.

  2. I see that you have diversity in your garden and perennial crops. Permaculture is about healing and regenerating soil. Carpet is typically made of petroleum and chemicals. You are poisoning the soil. Just sayin'. Poison is not permaculture.

  3. A relative of mine did the carpet thing but over years it was completely rooted in weeds and grass – so it wasn't doing its job and was a challenge to pull up. I'm doing wood chips and chickens! I have 18" hurdles around each bed so the chickens are limited to scratching around the edges and on the paths. Then I do some occasional hand weeding as I roam around the garden. Once a year in the fall I rake up the partially composted chips for the compost system and put fresh chips on the paths. This would not work for a farmer but not too time consuming for my 2000 sq ft garden.
